Astrium Services Government Communications is the worlds leading commercial provider of militarygrade satellite communications. EADS the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company is a global leader in aerospace, defence and related services. The EADS Group includes the aircraft manufacturer Airbus, the worlds largest helicopter supplier Eurocopter and EADS Astrium, the European leader in space programmes from Ariane to Galileo. Government Communications is the prime contractor for the Skynet 5 contract with the UK Ministry of Defence, signed in October 2003, valued at 3.6bn. The programme provides mobile voice, video, internet and broadcast communications for the UK armed forces, as well as a range of other Government departments and agencies. GC own, manage and operate the Skynet 5 satellite system, and are responsible for delivering the service, controlling the satellite, managing the network and implementing all upgrades throughout its life. From the outset GC designed Skynet 5 to be large enough and capable enough to provide military satellite services to a range of other countries and organisations. These include NATO and the armed forces of the Netherlands, Portugal, Canada, France and Germany. A vacancy has arisen for a Head of Service Delivery UK Services with Astrium Services Government Communications in Hawthorn. The Head of Service Delivery UK Services will focus on driving the development of Astrium Government Communications with full PL responsibility. The business has grown steadily over the past 10 years. The division is now looking for a commercially experienced manager to join the business and to take it through the next stage of its development. The role will take responsibility for all aspects of service delivery including the ground interface and equipment, the planning and operation of the network, monitoring performance, the maintenance regime, support infrastructure and the customer interface. This individual will be heavily focused on business development and maintaining enduring customer relationships. In a particularly competitive market, success will come from building on innovation, agility, capability and value for money, ensuring that a relationship of trusted partner exists with the client community. The successful candidate will, therefore, demonstrate a combination of commercial and operational abilities. The newly appointed Head of Service Delivery UK Services will be charged with the creation of a clear roadmap to drive the company forward. Based near Corsham, Wiltshire but with travel as required this is an exciting opportunity to take forward a wellestablished marketleading business to create a powerhouse across the sector. Head of Service Delivery UK Services key responsibility is to bring greater commercial focus to the Government Communications division by driving a culture of empowerment, enhanced capability and competitive edge across the organisation. The successful individual will take full responsibility for implementing and executing necessary business plans and accompanying cultural change working in partnership with other senior colleagues to ensure that the business fulfils its mission. Detailed Responsibilities Grow the revenue and market share of the company in the UK profitably, ensuring that targets are met in terms of turnover and margin. Management of the customer interface to ensure that current and future needs are met. Meet customer and user satisfaction targets in terms of performance against Service Level Agreements. Deliver the endtoend service to the agreed metrics. Define the vision of the business and best practices with a view to creating a worldwide bestinclass operation leveraging best practice, encouraging improvements to capability and facilitating the transfer of knowledge. Ensure the efficient operation of Paradigms networks to provide a robust and resilient platform for the services. Maintain and support the UK and overseas network infrastructure to meet contracted milestones. Implement a new organisation to deliver improved metrics and be an active driver of culture change in terms of main processes, business focus, accountability, customer focus, synergies, team work and supplier management. Lead the UK Business Delivery team and coordinate management responsibilities across the Business Delivery division. Working closely with senior management, develop and review strategies and operating plans and agree the immediate and longer term courses of action to be pursued. Continuously examine and challenge the service offering, seeking innovative ways to shape the business and operational resources to meet customer needs. Actively monitor changing market conditions, anticipate competitive activity and plan for and implement effective responses to new trends. Ensure the business is underpinned with the necessary process, systems and measurements which enable it to measure performance against clear KPIs. Taking a lead role with key customers and help develop new business opportunities and core areas for growth alongside internal teams. Promote the attainment of world class standards in the delivery of customer service and satisfaction. A proven, commercially focused operational manager with a demonstrable track record in the achievement of demanding targets. Full PL experience within ideally the satellite or terrestrial communications sector. Experience of interacting with core defence related customers and when appropriate, leading the relationship building effort at the highest levels. Proven leadership skills in generating cash and taking a business to the next level with a real understanding of a culture of KPIs, best practice and benchmarking systems. Real experience in leading organisations through cultural change and subsequent profitable growth. EADS Recruitment Centre Applications should be made via the EADS website. O2, Vodafone launch 4G services in UK

(Telecompaper) EE is no longer the only LTE operator in the UK, as Vodafone and O2 launched their 4G services on 29 August. Vodafone's service is initially available in London, while O2 is up and running in London, Leeds and Bradford. Both plan to expand the service to 13 major cities by year-end. O2 said it initially covers around 5 million people; it's celebrating the launch with a concert by Plan B in London, which will be shown live at some O2 shops. Both Vodafone and O2 are offering a range of premium content with their 4G plans to win over customers. Vodafone subscribers can get a subscription to Spotify Premium or Sky Sports 1 and 2 with their plan, while O2 offers 12 months of its O2 Tracks service with top-40 hits, Priority Sports videos and access to multi-play online games without data limits. Until October 31, O2 is giving customers 5GB of data from 27 a month (3GB as standard) and 8GB from 32 a month (5GB as standard) for the duration of the contract. Until 31 October, O2 is offering extra data on its 4G plans, of 5GB for the price of 3GB or 8GB for the price of 5GB. Its plans start at GBP 22 for unlimited calls and texts and 1 GB data. Vodafone starts with 2GB data and unlimited calls and texts for GBP 26. Both offer Sim-only plans as well, and prepaid and mobile broadband offers are expected to be available later in the year.
