Location ESOC, Darmstadt, Germany Description Stations Engineer in the ESTRACK Stations Infrastructure Section, Ground Facilities Operations Division, Mission Operations Department, Directorate of Operations. Duties Reporting to the Head of Section, the postholder will also assist the Divisions other sections with additional activities relevant to ground stations operations as required and will be involved in a variety of tasks related to the technical and operational management of ground stations. Main duties include analysing requirements for missions supported by ESA stations and coordinating station preparation, including configuration control this encompasses computing link budgets, defining and executing related test and validation programmes such as RF compatibility and station performance tests, and tracking campaigns leading and supporting activities, processes and projects related to multimission services and installations in the ESTRACK domain this includes requirements definition, design reviews and validation of new infrastructure, participation in anomaly reviewconfiguration control boards as well as acting as user representative in the ground systems development process performing technical and operational management tasks, including the technical officer role in the area of ground stations this includes supporting technical officers of external ground operations services with their duties, compiling technical and commercial requirements for the subject services, establishing service level agreements SLAs and associated key performance indicators KPIs, monitoring service performance, and ensuring consistency across contracts participating in the Mission Control Team for the launch and early orbit phase LEOP or other missioncritical phases as Operations Manager or as ESA representative at ESA or external agency sites the incumbent may also be assigned to one or more missions in the role of Ground Operations Manager GOM typically responsible for duties such as, but not limited to being the single point of contact with the mission for all services provided by ESTRACK, Operations Control Centre OCC and ICT infrastructure over the mission lifetime, providing regular routine and eventdriven reporting to the customer mission and line management acting within the Division on behalf of the mission during the buildup of the ground segment for all matters related to ESTRACK, OCC and ICT services this includes generating and maintaining costatcompletion data, missionspecific system engineering and steering of the required technical work and preparatory activities across the ground segment, validation of ground segment elements and final delivery to the mission. Technical competencies Telecommunications, electronic and mechanical engineering Space communication Architecture of ground stations dedicated to space mission support Radio frequency, modulation and coding techniques Behavioural competencies Communication Planning organisation Results orientation Teamwork Self motivation Additional requirements Practical experience in designing, engineering, validating andor operating ground stations. Being able to work independently and to present complex technical issues clearly and convincingly is essential for effectively performing this function. Candidates should be proactive, able to multitask, have strong selfmotivation and be resultsoriented. They will be expected to deal with different interfaces and work as part of an interdisciplinary team. Education Masters degree in engineering. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset. The Agency may require applicants to undergo selection tests.
