It was a busy day for King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima on the first full day of their first U.S. visit since ascending to the throne two years ago. The busy itinerary included face time with President Barack Obama, who praised the Netherlands as among America's "oldest and most precious allies" as he welcomed the royal couple to the White House on Monday, June 1. On Tuesday morning, they will fly to Grand Rapids for a gathering at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture park, and then take tours of Helen DeVos Children's Hospital and Van Andel Institute before heading to Chicago for the final leg of their tour.
