This position, based near Frankfurt in Germany, is for a consultant with at least five years experience in the Operations and Maintenance of large Ground Stations for GEO or LEO satellite missions. Our client is responsible for establishing and operating weather forecasting and Earth observation satellite programmes with associated data telemetry and dissemination operations. Vast quantities of data are produced and user communities throughout the world are able to access both current and historical data sets. The demanding realtime environment places much emphasis on adherence to quality and configuration management standards and procedures. The consultant will work in the clients System Engineering Department supporting various ground stations routine operations. The key experience and attributes sought are Maintenance and operations of large ground stations including site infrastructure Operation preparation phase, focusing on creation and maintenance of automated procedures to operate large ground stations from local and remote Ground Station designintegrationtesting in particular regarding the Antenna, RF Front End, Base Band subsystems and Monitoring Control Usage of Tracking systems including Antenna Control Unit ACUTracking receivers for large antennas to acquire either LEO or GEO satellite Operation and configuration of integrated TTC baseband equipment and ranging systems e.g. INSNEC Cortex type Usage of High Data Rate Demodulators RF measurement practices and usage of related instrumentation Knowledge of modulationdemodulation schemes applied by Ground to Space ICD for TTC and payload data transmission. Candidates should possess a University degree or equivalent. Fluency in English is essential. This is a freelance contract assignment with an initial period of 3 years starting in April 2013 with two options to extend for a further period of 1 year each. For the location in Darmstadt, Germany we are looking for a Ground Station Maintenance Engineer fm at Eumetsat. Tasks The Consultant shall support MTP, MSG, EPS and Jason 2 Routine Operations. The Consultant shall work in the SEP Division of the TSS Department as a member of the Ground Stations team, sharing the duty according to the work load, so heshe will be expected to acquire and maintain a Systemwide view of the various Ground Stations. The tasks of the Consultant will typically include definition and maintenance of automated and paper based operational Ground Stations procedures, in accordance with the corresponding configuration management and quality assurance practices planning and scheduling of the regular ground Station maintenance activities within ongoing operational constraints interface at technical level with the maintenance service providers and coordinate the maintenance activities coordination of the investigation and rectification of anomalies reported by the operationsmaintenance team and interface with manufacturers if necessary for anomaly correction and verification attend dailyweekly operations coordination meetings and interface with operational representatives as required provision of ground station support to operations during critical mission phases, pre and post launch i.e. SVT, LEOP, IOT and contingency assisting with the preparation or evaluation of proposals, as required, for modificationsimprovements to the Ground Stations and associated equipment support the planning and scheduling of the implementation, testing and validation of these modificationsimprovements provision of training to operation teams about ground stations upgrades provision of status reports about the performance of the ground stations and associated systems maintenance of Ground stations databases provision of support to the setting up of maintenance agreementscontracts from a technical point of view Essential requirements In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the Consultant shall have at least 5 years experience in the Operations and Maintenance of Large Ground Stations andor Ground Stations EngineeringIntegration to be used either for GEO or LEO missions.
