A vacancy has arisen for a Functional Validation Engineer with Astrium in Stevenage. The Central Engineering technical unit for Data Processing, On Board Software Dependability comprises departments in UK, France and Germany. The function of the technical unit is to provide a central competence that meets the evolving needs of the business, working on satellite platforms, payloads and equipment. The UK department is responsible for the resourcing and technical management of the Functional Validation FV aspects of the Earth Observation, Navigation and Science ENS satellite projects. It relates to all activities set in place for verifying and validating a system from a functional point of view. Specifically this means integration of avionics equipment, tests engineering, writingchecking up procedures, production of the test procedures, investigation of anomalies. The Candidate is required to understand and handle the avionics tests set up with real hardware equipment andor simulator. The FV activity is based on a consistent use of simulation models and facilities, databases and procedures throughout all project phases, so as to achieve a consistent process for harmonised development and Validation of satellite hardware and software, checkout software and checkout equipment. Process Improvement initiatives are being constantly performed to make the FV more efficient and consistent across the various projects. The key responsibilities of the role are as follows Testing Tasks The successful candidate will initially join one of the ENS projects as part of the Functional Verification team and, after an initial period of training, will be participating in the preparation, implementation and execution of functional tests on simulated and realtime test benches. Tests will cover the following subsystems Attitude and Orbit Control AOCS, Data Handling DHS, Failure Detection and Incident Recovery FDIR, Payload and System Control. The role will also involve working on support activities, for instance anomaly resolution and management, configuration control, process improvement. Tasks include Establish the necessary and sufficient configuration to perform the Functional Validation task. Validation of the functional chains through end to end open loop tests AOCS, DHS, ... Validate the nominal and reconfiguration functions of the subassembly through closed loop tests The development and debug of Automated Test Procedures ATP and scripts, in ELISA language, working within a specified process and utilisation of Templates and FV Tools against a test specification this will include liaison with the various project architects and domain specialists. Execution of the ATPs on the various test benches together with test data analysis and Test Report Compilation this will include liaison with specialist areas for result data analysis, technical management and Product Assurance PA. Investigation of anomalies and diagnosis determination of root cause equipment, environment model, software flight, test bed, data bases, procedures, tests specifications. Process Improvement The candidate should expect to be involved in managing process improvements typically these tasks will include the liaison with other departments, management of the task, definition and implementation of the improvement. The process Improvements will be in Liaison with the various Project teams, architects and specialists. The successful candidate will demonstrate the following skills and experience Engineering honours degree in relevant Engineering subject Experience in an Avionic Functional Validation Validation or closely related domain Effective at working in a multidisciplinary international team Experience of HardwareSoftware test environment test bench, test equipment, CCS, etc. Experience of testing Open Closed Loop systems Development, debug, execution of test scripts Analysis of test data results Perform anomaly Investigations Knowledge of System Engineering lifecycle, etc. Experience of software programming academic, advanced, etc. Experience of embedded systems Desirable Knowledge of Test bench HW SW Integration and configuration Knowledge of Spacecraft systems, AOCS, DHS, subsystems Electrical, Thermal, RF, etc., Knowledge of Test Environment simulators Experience of scripting language Perl, VBA, Java, etc. Experience of Unix Linux administration, script development, etc. TO APPLY click here
