(Telecompaper) Qualcomm has unveiled its first processor for 5G smartphones, the Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform. In addition to multi-gigabit broadband speeds with the 5G modem, the device upgrades again the on-device AI, extended reality and camera opportunities and supports new features such as advanced gaming and in-display fingerprint readers. Samsung said it will use the platform to launch its firs 5G devices in the first half of 2019.

(Telecompaper) Verizon and Samsung have announced plans to bring out a commercial 5G smartphones to market in the first half of next year. The companies will unveil a proof of concept at the annual Qualcomm Snapdragon Technology Summit, set to take place in Maui this week. The device will be powered by the upcoming flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon Mobile Platform with the Snapdragon X50 5G NR modem and antenna modules with integrated RF transceiver, RF front-end and antenna elements.

Vodacom group revenue up 5.6% to ZAR 44.4 bln in H1

(Telecompaper) Vodacom Group revenue increased by 5.6 percent to ZAR 44.36 billion in the company's fiscal first half to 30 September. Service revenue rose by 6.1 percent to ZAR 36.77 billion, and EBITDA was up 4.7 percent to ZAR 16.47 billion. The group added 4.8 million customers in the six months, including 2.5 million in South Africa, 2.3 million in international operations and 373,000 at Safaricom, for a total base of over 109 million customers at the end of the period.
