BT adds 136,000 retail broadband customers in Q4

(Telecompaper) BT Group generated revenue of GBP 4.78 billion in the fourth quarter to 31 March, down 2 percent from GBP 4.87 billion a year earlier, while adjusted EBITDA rose 4 percent to GBP 1.67 billion. Adjusted operating profit was up 14 percent to GBP 981 million, and adjusted profit before tax rose 21 percent to GBP 833 million. BT Retail revenue was flat in the quarter at GBP 1.85 billion, with EBITDA up 5 percent year-on-year to GBP 511 million, and operating profit up 8 percent to GBP 413 million. It added 136,000 retail broadband customers in Q4, representing 48 percent of the DSL and fibre broadband market net additions. It added 211,000 retail fibre broadband to reach around 1.3 million. TV net additions increased to 40,000 to reach a total of 810,000 customers. The number of BT Wi-fi hotspots reached over 5 million at end-March, with Wi-fi minutes reaching 4.7 billion in the fourth quarter and over 13 billion for the year.

Adobe has warned users of its ColdFusion application server platform of a critical vulnerability that could give unauthorized users access to sensitive files stored on their servers. The vulnerability is identified as CVE-2013-3336 and affects ColdFusion 10, 9.0.2, 9.0.1, 9.0 and earlier versions for Windows, Macintosh and UNIX, Adobe said in an advisory published Wednesday.

BT Sport to be free for consumer BT Broadband customers

(Telecompaper) BT has confirmed that BT Sport will be free to any consumer BT broadband customer. The company currently has more than five million homes taking BT broadband. To encourage people to switch broadband supplier, BT is offering new customers the BT Infinity fibre broadband service from GBP 15 per month or copper broadband from GBP 10. Customers wanting to take the BT Sport channels without BT broadband will pay GBP 15 per month for HD from BT via Sky's digital satellite platform or GBP 12 in standard definition. BT Sport will be available via BT's own TV service, Sky's digital satellite platform and also online or via a new app for access on PCs, smartphones and tablets. Customers who wish to watch BT Sport on their TVs will require a set top box. This will be a YouView or Vision+ box for BT TV customers or a Sky box if customers take the channels via Sky's digital satellite platform.
