French govt wants to relaunch 5G auction process in September

(Telecompaper) The final stage of France's 5G auction should be rescheduled for September, according to the secretary of state for the telecom sector, Agnes Pannier-Runacher. Speaking to Le Figaro, she explained that the date will be set by telecom authority Arcep, noting that its president Sebastien Soriano shares the government's viewpoint. If the new timetable is respected, she added, France could see the introduction of the first 5G commercial offers before the end of the year.

(Telecompaper) Ethiopia's Ministry of Finance has decided to offer a 5 percent stake in Ethio Telecom to the public, with a cap on the number of shares an individual can buy, reports Addis Fortune. The minority stake in the telecom company will be sold to thousands of Ethiopians. Forty percent of the company will be privatised to one of the international telecom operators, and the government will retain a majority share.

Angolan govt picks Africell as fourth telecoms operator

(Telecompaper) Angola has awarded the licence for its fourth telecoms network to Lebanese group Africell, as Luanda opens other economic sectors to foreign competition, AFP reported. Angola had awarded the licence in 2019 to a domestic start-up called Telstar but President Joao Lourenco annulled the decision, saying the company failed to meet the bidding requirements. Africell already operates in Gambia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Sierra Leone and Uganda.
