Standard identifies insulation materials and also provides safety, health, and durability criteria for combinations of materials and performance. As part of that, it allows designers and specifiers to select from 4 fire performance classifications, depending on type of building being designed.

U.S. EPA will accept applications through January 29, 2016 for second annual Safer Choice Partner of the Year Awards. To qualify for Safer Choice label, product must meet EPA's Safer Choice Standard of human and environmental health criteria. EPA will present at least one award in each of 5 categories: Product and Chemical Manufacturers, Purchasers and Distributors, Retailers, Supporters, and Innovators.
