Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd. said the union representing more than 3,000 of its locomotive engineers and conductors has served a strike notice for this weekend. The Calgary-based company said a work stoppage could occur as early as Sunday.

Union Pacific, EPPD team up to catch motorists illegally crossing railroad tracks

More than 70 motorists received citations Wednesday during an operation by Union Pacific and the El Paso Police Department targeting motorists illegally crossing train tracks when gates were down, officials said. As part of Operation Lifesaver, also known as Operation UPCares , more than 20 police officers were positioned at 16 railroad crossing from South Central El Paso to the Lower Valley looking for motorists illegally crossing railroad tracks while a small two-cart train went through the intersections.

The cereal major has been locked in lengthy battles with the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco and Grain Millers union over worker rights and contracts at various cereal plants across the US, including Memphis and Omaha.
