Post Business Incubation Officer This post is classified A2 A4 on the Coordinated Organisations salary scale. This position forms part of ESAs Advance Recruitment Scheme which is established to provide appropriate staffing resources when requirements materialise. Appointments are therefore made for an initial duration of two years upon which the selected candidate may be appointed to a permanent post in the Agency. Location ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands Description Business Incubation Officer in the Technology Transfer and Business Incubation Office, Systems Department, Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality. The postholder will report to the Head of the Technology Transfer and Business Incubation Office. Duties Specific tasks and responsibilities will include Managing technology transfer and business incubation activities in accordance with Directorate practices Supporting the daily management of the ESA Business Incubation Centres ESA BICs Assuming the technical leadership and management of contracts with ESAs BIC partners. This will include daily interfacing with local business partners as well as with the relevant local authorities and governmental agencies Supporting the establishment and implementation of the strategy for technology transfer and business incubation Strengthening current ESA BICs as well as supporting the setting up of new ESA BIC initiatives Maintaining awareness of the latest technological trends and current space system engineering practices, which could be beneficial for commercial spinoffs within the frame of the technology transfer activities, especially the ESA BICs technology push Identifying technology needs of terrestrial sectors and the potential of space technologies to address those needs market pull Maintaining awareness of overall ESA technology transfer activities such as the Technology Transfer Network, ESAs licensing activities, the ESA investment initiatives, as well as other European BIC initiatives and relevant programmes of the European Commission and other international organisations, such as CERN, etc. Contributing to the diffusion of the results of the activities performed and the transfer of knowledge across the Agency. Technical competencies Knowledge of technical domains and related RD trends in space industry Knowledge of innovationrelated processes Technology transfer process Incubation process Budgeting, cost control and resources and activities planning Interdisciplinary transfers and brokering Knowledge of ESA IPR Intellectual Property Rights Behavioural competencies Continuous learning Results orientation Communication Teamwork Ambassadorship Innovation creativity Additional requirements Knowledge or experience in a business or commercial context would be an asset, as would experience in chairing evaluation boards and experience in businessdriven innovation programmes such as business incubation centres and technology transfer programmes. Candidates for this post should be also able to lead and motivate stakeholders in an international collaborative context, as well as to represent the interests of the Agency to the outside. Education Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in an engineering domain, as well as knowledge of space technology and engineering practices. Other Information For behavioural competencies expected from ESA staff in general, please refer to the ESA Competency Framework. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset. The Agency may require applicants to undergo selection tests.
