If you are an experienced scientistcomputer scientist looking to take the next step in your career within an international organisation then wed love to hear from you. Leading a group of engineers, the key candidate shall develop and maintain the complete USC climate data processing software, including the management of group activities and resources. This is a challenging and rewarding role incorporating both engineering and managerial aspects. The holder of this post will play a key part in the managing and execution of tasks on this new and exciting project. This is an independent position, offering the opportunity for longterm employment. The successful candidate shall have a university degree or equivalent in a relevant technical discipline along with skills and experience in each of the following areas Project and small team management including management of activities, resources and reporting Software engineering, in particular for satellite data processing chains and processing related to satellite product validation, preferably in an operational environment Programming using CC and Fortran 95 and higher programming languages as well as scripting languages, such as Python, Perl, Shell Design, implementation and maintenance of relational and nonrelational databases preferably using Oracle, MySQL, MongoDB Satellite data processing involving large data volumes Strengths in analysis, synthesis and presentation of results Excellent technical writing skills Excellent interpersonal, communication and team working skills and proven ability to apply these skills to the interactions with teams in a matrix organisation. Experience in the following would be considered advantageous Familiarity with EU H2020Copernicus specific project management procedures Basic understanding of System Engineering Concepts Familiarity with nearreal time processing of satellite data and functional analysis, including calibration andor validation Familiarity with operational procedures for software verification and validation Familiarity with the use of satellite data for climate monitoring. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. Candidates require a good working knowledge of English, both spoken and written, a knowledge of French would be advantageous.
