For our activities in EUMETSAT, we are currently looking for a Communications Networks Systems Engineer. Tasks and Responsibilities As Communications Networks Systems Engineer you will be employed within a leveraged allmission team, requiring the ability to switch rapidly between the multitude of roles e.g. project support, operations as required. As successful candidate you will assume and maintain the following roles and responsibilities within the Team Ownership of customer communications systems needs Prime interface and point of contact for ensuring customers needs are understood and translated to technical specifications and constraints Owning the responsibility to identify gaps between what the customer requires and the policy and technical constraints that may need to be mitigated e.g. security policy adherence Leading the rollout of customer solutions within the projectprogramme and being the liaison between the Communications Team and the ProjectProgramme throughout Obtaining and ensuring customer buyin and joint ownership of deliverables Ownership of the network performance and management solution delivered and the servicesolution quality delivered to the customer Actively contribute to the substantial scheduling challenge integrating the project schedule with other schedules through liaison with multiple stakeholders to ensure that project requirements are met, whilst facilitating the most effective deconfliction with existing network operations for operational systems Support to procurements of customerled network services and systems Participate in the evaluation of offers for network services and systems Support and contribute to the development of network solutions for the MTG programme. Requirements Essentials In addition to having a University degree in a relevant engineering discipline, you should demonstrate significant knowledge and a minimum of 5 years direct experience in the area of specification, design, implementation, verification and maintenance of communications systems and should have skills and experience in the following areas Domain Skills Understanding and translating the business needs imposed by satellite ground systems environments or similar on networking, and the delivery of an associated network infrastructure along with functions and systems that are demonstrably viable and optimal to meet the stated requirements. Development, Verification Maintenance Skills You should demonstrate substantial recent direct experience with all aspects of network engineering within a comparable ideally satellite ground system communications system lifecycle. This should include for example identification of needs to deployment, operations and eventual decommissioning, and explain how those skill and experience would be directly relevant to meeting the requirements of the position. Supporting examples should be provided of recent experience where such skills have been deployed. This would include experience with mature change, configuration, capacity and problem management processes and systems. Technology Skills Internet Protocol network design, specification, documentation, testing, fault finding, and evolution Indepth knowledge of Cisco design methodologies, technologies and solutions. It will be beneficial if the incumbent holds current Cisco certifications or equivalent Familiarity with the trend to virtualise the above technologies and to recommend and justify when and why such approaches may be optimal, in addition to then deploying and supporting them Security skills associated with securing the communication system e.g. firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention, strong authentication Skills appropriate to associated domains e.g. computing clientserver, storage, dissemination Network performance monitoring in terms of both, the network and the applications systems it supports in terms of supporting fault finding, documentation, performance tuning, capacity and configuration management etc.. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore you must be able to work effectively in this language. Desirables You should also be assessed for the following skills and qualities Working proactively with the minimum of supervision in an individual or team environment Conducting activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, working calmly and correctly under stress Working in teams and sharing expertise and experience with other team members Able to commit to the plan and deliver the expected results on time or to report proactively if any deviations are foreseen Take ownership of problems through to effective resolution Knowledge of German not mandatory.
