Copernicus Sentinel3 Spacecraft Operations Engineer Location Darmstadt, Germany EUMETSAT is Europes meteorological satellite agency. Its role is to establish and operate meteorological satellites to monitor the weather and climate from space 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This information is supplied to the National Meteorological Services of the organisations Member and Cooperating States in Europe, as well as other users worldwide. EUMETSAT will also operate on behalf of the European Union Copernicus satellites and instruments Sentinel3, Sentinel4, Sentinel5 and Sentinel6 to provide data and support services to the Copernicus marine, atmospheric composition and climate change monitoring information services and to Copernicus users. As an intergovernmental European Organisation, EUMETSAT has 30 Member States Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom. Duration of Initial Contract The initial contract will be of 4 years duration. The appointment may be extended, subject to programme requirements and individual performance. Subsequent contracts may have a maximum duration of 5 years at each review. Please note that appointment is subject to the signature of the Copernicus Delegation Agreement between EUMETSAT and the European Commission EC foreseen in 2014. Background The Copernicus Sentinel3 S3 Spacecraft Operations Engineer is a member of the S3 Spacecraft Operations Team within the Flight Operations FLO Division of the Operations and Services to Users Department OPS. Heshe will participate in all activities related to the preparation for and execution of inorbit operations of the S3A satellite, and in preparatory activities for the launch, commissioning and operations of the recurrent S3 satellites S3B, C. Duties The main duties of the post will be to Support the conduct of routine operations of the S3 space segment Support the operations preparation and inorbit operations of the S3 satellites in all mission phases Take direct responsibility for the satellite system operations, with support to the platform and payload operations at subsystem level Coordinate a team of operations engineers and analysts in the development, test, validation and maintenance of S3 spacecraft procedures, databases and other operations items and tools Support inorbit operations coordination of S3 satellite activities with S3 system level operations Assist in the provision of training to the S3 Mission Control Centre operations personnel Participate in the management of the technical interface with the S3 external industrial support during routine operations Support on request activities for other Low Earth Orbit LEO mission preparations Deputise for the S3 Spacecraft Operations Manager as required. Qualifications University degree in engineering or equivalent qualification. Skills and Experience Proven experience in the field of LEO satellite operations, preferably gained in the development or operations of an Earth Observation space system, with emphasis on the overall satellite system aspects Strong interpersonal and management skills, flexibility and capability to adapt to complex situations, as well as strengths in analysis, synthesis and presentation. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. Candidates must be able to work effectively in English and have a working knowledge of French. The minimum basic salary for this post is EURO 5,180 per month net of internal tax which may be negotiable on the basis of skills and experience.
