This vacancy note concerns an onsite consulting position at EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany. Data processing operations Engineering Support 1313057 Job Description The selected Engineer will support the Routine Operations phases of the Meteosat Second Generation MSG, Meteosat Transition MTP and EUMETSAT Polar System EPS Programmes. The tasks of the engineer will typically include Monitoring and reporting on the performance of the data processing systems and the quality and availability of products at different levels Investigating anomalies relating to the performance of the data processing systems and the quality and availability of the products Preparing and reviewing technical documentation relating to data processing operations Providing Standby callout support Supporting the further development of the MSG and EPS data processing systems, including the specification and validation of system updates Supporting the operations preparations for future MSG and EPS spacecraft Supporting the preparations for Meteosat Third Generation Attendance at and participation in technical meetings and formal reviews. Required Skills and Experience University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline A minimum of 3 years experience in realtime acquisition, Level 0 processing and Level 1 processing of data andor Level 2 processing of data from imaging andor sounding instruments on remote sensing spacecraft Significant experience in validating complex remote sensing data processing systems Experience with UNIXLinux operating systems Be able to work calmly and correctly under stress situations Good communication skills Fluency in English Desirable Skills and Experience Knowledge of imaging and sounding instrumentation for remote sensing spacecraft Experience in programming languages e.g. C, C and Fortran Knowledge of scripting languages e.g. Perl, Python, shell Knowledge of spacecraft andor ground segment operations Knowledge andor experience of geophysical remote sensing data processing, e.g. Image Navigation and Registration INR, radiometric correction, calibration algorithms and retrieval of geophysical parameters Knowledge of French Work Location Darmstadt, Germany Dates Application Deadline 12 August 2013 Start of Work 01 January 2014 Important Notes Before applying to this position, please read the page Notes to Applicants on the Solenix website under Career.
