Do you want to help us to evolve and maintain our distributed IT infrastructure and services? These systems support data intensive applications that help us support our users to predict the weather and monitor climate change. EUMETSAT is the European satellite agency for monitoring weather and climate. Bringing together the resources of 30 Member States, we develop and operate a range of satellite systems surveying the atmosphere, ocean and climate that deliver data 24 hours a day. Our data is vital to weather forecasts that protect lives and property, and to monitoring the changing climate. EUMETSAT is now developing the next generation of satellite systems, shaping its longterm future. Within our Computer and Storage Management Competence Area CSM CA of the Generic Systems and Infrastructure Division GSI, we need a Distributed IT Systems Engineer to join our team. EUMETSAT is committed to developing its data reprocessing facilities and this is a new and challenging role. We use scientific techniques, big data and state of the art technology to develop our climaterelated products for our users. You will work closely with our teams of internal and external scientists to understand their needs and to develop outstanding data resources. You will be responsible for the full hardware and software lifecycle of maintenance, design and development of our distributed data processing systems, and have the capability to represent your team in meetings with users and suppliers, as appropriate. Along with a university degree or equivalent in Computer Science or Engineering, you will be able to use cutting edge big data technologies such as PBS, Kubernetes, Apache Kafka and Slurm. You should have expert knowledge of GNU Linux Systems and Docker containers with experience of using virtualisation technologies. You will have strong data management skills and be able to advise on crossteam initiatives and assess frontier technologies. With experience of agile methodologies, you will be familiar with retrospectives and continuous improvement processes. You are organised, with an ability to work in a fast paced environment, making pragmatic decisions which will improve our products and services. With excellent communication skills, you need to be a team player with the ability to synthesise and describe complex concepts.
