Post Geospatial Analytics Engineer This post is for a limited duration of 4 years, nonrenewable, and is classified A2A4 on the Coordinated Organisations salary scale. Location ESRIN, Frascati, Italy Description Geospatial Analytics Engineer in the lab Invest Office in the PhiLab Division, Future Systems Department, Directorate of Earth Observation Programmes. Duties The postholder will report to the Head of the lab Invest Office. Working in an open, collaborative, multidisciplinary team lab, in active cooperation with other staff of the Directorate and ESA, as well as in cooperation with industry and research communities in the framework of ESA programmes, the postholder will Establish and maintain the DEOP observatory of NewSpace actors, investors, products, missions, markets and revenues, and related trends, with a special focus on geospatial analytics Stimulate and manage industrial activities related to the Investing in Industrial Innovation InCubed programme element, as well as related programmes that are relevant or linked to geospatial analytics Support activities for enhancing the understanding of Earth observation EO endtoend system architectures and ecosystems, including Space segment, including e.g. NewSpace architectures, onboard processing capabilities and downlinking Ground segment aspects such as data analytics, data distribution methodologies and data access User segment aspects, such as trends in EO applications and services, and in downstream industry Support activities for enhancing the EO domain in a commercial context, including enablers and future trends. Monitoring and responding to these trends and emerging opportunities in a globally commercial context Develop dialogue and cooperation with NewSpace actors startups, companies, entrepreneurs, investors, venture capital, business angels Rapidly prototype and demonstrate data analytics use cases of EO data, using and adapting as needed stateoftheart analytic software frameworks, tools and platforms Conduct technical analyses of applications performance and competitive potential of new space data and services, with respect to traditional sources Support regarding socioeconomic and market analyses to document the value and impact of EO at all levels of society Systematic consultation and engagement with domain experts and teams from across ESA to ensure that new initiatives for geospatial analytics benefit from the best available specialist expertise and capabilities ESA can offer Prepare and present summary reports and communication materials. Technical competencies Background in engineering or a relevant scientific discipline Geospatial intelligence market NewSpace technologies, methods and markets Knowledge of EO products, applications and market sectors Data analytics methods and tools Software coding and development Behavioural competencies Innovation Creativity Problem Solving Self Motivation Education Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree in relevant disciplines, e.g. engineering and business, computer science. Additional requirements At least 3 years industrial experience EO system engineering Programming in one or more of C, Python, JavaScript Use of common analytics tools and packages Other information For behavioural competencies expected from ESA staff in general, please refer to the ESA Competency Framework. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.
