Job description For our customer, EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany, we are seeking an experienced Engineer to support the Ground Stations System Engineering activities of ground segments for future programmes mainly EPSSG and Jason CS, as well as to support the existing operational MTP, MSG, EPS programmes. You will work in the SEP Division of the TSS Department of EUMETSAT as a member of the Ground Stations team, sharing the duty according to the work load, and you will be expected to have and maintain a systemwide view of the various Ground Stations. Responsibilities As a Ground Station System Engineer you will support the activities of ground segment developments in the areas of Ground Stations, RF and Telecommunications. In doing this, you will typically support Engineering activities of Phase B mission preparation of future ground segments in the areas of Ground Stations, RF and Telecommunications mainly for supporting EPSSG and JasonCS activities The follow up of the detailed design and development activities of Phase CD implementation and deployment of the future ground segments in the areas of Ground Stations, RF and Telecommunications The maintenance and evolution in Phase E operations and maintenance to the other programmes within EUMETSAT MSG, EPS, Jason, ,.. in the areas of Telecommunications, RF and Ground Stations This is a fulltime position located at EUMETSATs premises in Darmstadt, Germany. The start date is Q1 in 2016. The work shall be predominantly carriedout at the EUMETSAT premises in Darmstadt, Germany, but you may also be required to go on missions to remote ground station sites such as Svalbard. Missions could have extended durations of several weeks during the missions you may have to work during nonnominal working hours, including also work during weekends and official holidays. Occasionally tasks may require late night or weekend work. Requests for such work will always be minimised where possible and will always be agreed in advance between both parties. Qualifications Competencies You shall have a university degree or equivalent in an engineering discipline relevant to the job profile together with the experience and capability to fulfil the assigned tasks. You shall have, as a prerequisite, a demonstrated experience in a similar function for at least 5 years. This experience shall include in particular Ground stations system and subsystem design and development for TTC Ground stations system and subsystem design and development for mission specific andor satellite communications ground stations TTC baseband equipment and SLE compliant implementations Technical background in the specification and VV of ground stations and large antennas and tracking systems for LEO and GEO satellites ACU and receivers inclusive Knowledge of modulationdemodulation schemes applied by Ground to Space ICD for TTC and payload data transmission e.g. ECSS and CCSDS Standards In addition, the knowledge and experience of the following processesareas is considered as an asset Competence and experience in the engineering processes for managing requirements from the definition phase through the traceability, verification, validation and maintenance stages using formal methods and tools e.g. DOORs Design and requirements engineering of large and complex Earth Observation related ground stations Usage of High Data Rate Demodulators System experience with Link budget analysis and tools in S, X and Ka Band Standard RF and microwave tools and SW package for generation of signal processing related simulations andor semiautomated measurement procedures The applicant shall be in possession of sound organisational and interpersonal skills to conduct the responsibilities described above autonomously and with a minimum level of supervision, exhibiting good oral and written communications skills, analytical capabilities, and motivation.
