Telespazio VEGA has a strong footprint in human spaceflight services in Germany with representation in the European Astronaut Centre, the Columbus Control Centre COLCC and in the Microgravity User Support Center MUSC. In Cologne expert services are provided in the domains of Astronaut Training and Columbus Payload Operations support. In addition to human spaceflight also robotic exploration expertise is provided to DLR. We are looking for a Head of Division with a vision on the future of European Human Spaceflight and Exploration, strong ideas on the commercialization of the ISS or COLUMBUS and the ambitions and drive to position Telespazio VEGA even stronger in this domain. The Division Head role is a key management position with full autonomy and responsibility for managing the group of experts, the contracts, customer relationships and to develop our business further. Experience in managing teams is an asset, yet not mandatory for this position. We rather focus on the potential you have in this area and develop it with you. The successful applicant will become a member of the Operations and Engineering Department. This position is based at DLR MUSC in Cologne. The position can be shaped as both a full or parttime position in combination with engineering or operational positions internally or via customers or more focus on business development. The position is permanent and the earliest starting date is July 2019. We are looking forward to meeting you! ResponsibilitiesDuties The Head of Division is responsible for the management and coordination of the division and the development of the business activities in Cologne and beyond. A strong focus will be on the interaction with our expert staff, customer relationships and development of new concepts and ideas to grow our business in Cologne. The division is part of the Operations and Engineering Services department and together with 4 other divisions covering all areas of satellite operations of Telespazio VEGA in Germany. The team of Head of Divisions is closely working together with the Department Head in leveraging on the Telespazio VEGA and Group expertise, brand and presence to grow the business in existing and new commercial markets. You will be responsible for the division and staff management, financial planning budgeting and development of the business activities. In particular, your key tasks and responsibilities are Manage and develop the group of currently 15 colleagues, ensuring frequent communication and interaction Lead the business development of the Account supporting or becoming the Key Account Manager and be the primary point of contact to the customer Manage the contracts associated with the division i.e. be the overall responsible for the successful delivery management of the division Interaction with subcontractors, prime contractors and partner companies Monitor and plan the divisions financials revenue, PL, margins and ensure a reliable financial reporting and forecasting Drive product or service developments to complement the division offerings and secure internal investment funding by development of sound business plans Coordinate the divisions support and administration e.g. invoicing, timesheets, reports, subcontractor management, etc. Qualifications Experience University or similar degree Background in the ISS domain and experience working or dealing with the key stakeholders. Essential Skills You are a charismatic and energetic person with excellent communication, social and leadership skills You bring a strong business understanding and have a continuous stream of new ideas and a drive to develop new offerings and opportunities You have an innovative and open mindset You are able to deal with critical situations and pressure and have the right level of diplomacy Desirable Skills Experience managing teams is an advantage but not mandatory we focus on your potential to develop these skills.
