It employs some 40,000 employees generating revenues of approximately 14 billion per year. A vacancy for a Head of Payload AIT Test and Validation has arisen with Airbus Defence Space in Portsmouth. The successful applicant will be responsible for developing and managing the Test and Validation strategy to perform Assembly, Integration and Test of Satellite Payload and Instruments within the Payload AIT group, including process development and industrial capacity. As a member of the departments first line, you will be instrumental in driving change throughout the AIT ensuring process ownership with a focus on innovation and improvements to reliably deliver results by executing on time, cost and quality. The successful candidate will be subject to UK National Security Clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include People Develop a culture of team work, resilience and high performance to maximise employee engagement and performance. Implementation of an industrialised culture based on a processdriven organisation and on lean principles within Payload Test and Validation teams Drive and develop team members to raise technical and operational competencies within the Test and Validation process area Put in place relevant process structure to maintain knowledge management and succession planning to ensure long term ability to provide solutions and test strategy for the business. Sustain the recruitment and development of junior team members by continuing the departments commitment towards the Airbus DS apprenticeship team Champion empowerment of all staff by providing technical training and ensuring guidance on projects Support underperforming individuals and address competencies and performance issues Support the Head of AIT in promoting AIT internally and externally to the business units and in showcasing best practice and operational performance Lead internal mobility between the Test and Validation teams to encourage skills crossfertilisation individuals development and eradication of single point failures Drive AIT Test Engineering as the technical authority within the business regarding Payload Test and Validation processes Develop RF test experts test system experts and technical specialists, defining the long term strategy for test processes and test products for the Satellite BDs Develop and promote a working together mindset between all AIT teams Responsible for operational health and safety Process As a Key Process Owner with in the Telecoms department for Prepare and Deliver Test formerly Payload Validation and Payload AIT Test KP06 and KPO8. Responsible for creating a value added regime of KPI for payload test to drive performance, reduce cost, improve quality and on time delivery. Support Project Customisation phase and AIT Test Customisation phase from project kick off to the formalisation of the IFBD of the test plan and of the payload test requirements specification Responsible for AIT Test and Validation preparation, including The definition and procurement of the Test BoM The resolution of operational access issues DMU sessions with the DO The architecture, design, development and delivery of all EGSE components The preparation of test operations, including the ownership of the AIT schedule for all Test operations and the preparation of all work instructions for the clean room This part of the role requires close coordination with all KIDs owner and the timely management of engineering inputs to Test and Validation Support the bid process for all test and validation aspects, including Ownership of all Test and Validation work packages in the cost reference Definition of the Test and Validation cost drivers in the cost model Support of the bids team within AIT and within the BDs for all business prospects, from ROM to RFI RFP and BAFO Accountable for process quality whilst ensuring the AIT 2nd Closure process is systematically implemented thereby ensuring process reliability and performance Accountable for Test Process optimisation definition, documentation, rework, continuous improvement including support throughout operational phase, during process training for increased productivity, maximised efficiency, product quality and on time delivery. Delivery Responsible for Lean Operations and Quality execution of all Test and Validation activities in line with business processes to satisfy customer expectations and needs Accountable for the overall test integration and test sequence and successful operational execution in support of ProjectProgramme milestones Responsible for the Test components of the AIT Generic Schedule Owner of the Test and Validation cost reference Customer and Management reporting at business and operational reviews within the operations organisation and also within the BDs organisation Investment planning and management of all capital expenditure for Test in support of business Operational PlanForecast Definition and implementation of the EGSE roadmap Drive improvement and innovation in line with business objectives reduction of nonquality, increased competitiveness Implementation of systematic Lessons Learned on operational Projects with the AIT project management team and with the BD Drive standardisation of processes across the AIT Engineering team as well as assisting with crosssite harmonisationsynergy Management of the Test and Validation forward load prediction manage recruitment to maintain core skills internally but in the same time bring sufficient agility to the process to be able to address peaks and troughs without degradation of operations quality Accountable for the management of AIT test and validation work packages with respect to Quality, Cost and Delivery and operational performance including KPIs We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience An experienced managerleader with experience in an engineering operations environment relevant to spacecraft engineering RF and test engineering operations disciplines A strong history of leadership, driving change and improvement within a team environment Experience of Lean implementationculture Proven track record of team management and development in both a technical and blue collar team environment Successfully led a teams through change and expanding environment Candidates must be able to demonstrate outstanding leadership and team building experience. Excellent analytical and problem solving skills. A background in RF engineering RF test andor in aerospace manufacturingengineering environment preferably within the space sector.
