Hometown retailer Belk said to be considering a sale

A Reuters report Thursday says the Charlotte-based company has hired Goldman Sachs Group Inc. "to evaluate strategic alternatives, including a potential sale." The retailer is the nation's largest family-owned and operated department store chain, with 297 stores in 16 Southern states.
