Interests in the Azores Islands should monitor the progress of Gaston. DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 500 PM AST (2100 UTC), the eye of Hurricane Gaston was located near latitude 32.6 North, longitude 51.9 West. Gaston is moving toward the east-northeast near 10 mph (17 km/h), and this general motion with an increase in forward speed is expected during the next couple of days. Maximum sustained winds remain near 110 mph (175 km/h) with higher gusts. Some weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles (75 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 150 miles (240 km).
