Interests in the Hawaiian Islands should monitor the progress of Hector. DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 800 AM PDT (1500 UTC), the center of Hurricane Hector was located near latitude 14.2 North, longitude 132.7 West. Hector is moving toward the west near 12 mph (19 km/h), and this general motion will likely continue for the next several days. On the forecast track, Hector is expected to reach the Central Pacific basin early Monday. Maximum sustained winds remain near 120 mph (195 km/h) with higher gusts. Short-term fluctuations in intensity are likely during the next few days, but Hector is expected to be near major hurricane intensity through early next week. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 80 miles (130 km). The estimated minimum central pressure is 962 mb (28.41 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- None.
