DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 800 PM PDT (0300 UTC), the center of Hurricane Lane was located near latitude 11.2 North, longitude 129.8 West. Lane is moving toward the west-northwest near 15 mph (24 km/h). A motion between west-northwest and west is expected during the next few days, and Lane is forecast to cross over into the central Pacific basin on Saturday. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 75 mph (120 km/h) with higher gusts. Rapid strengthening is expected for the next 36 to 48 hours, and Lane is forecast to become a major hurricane by Saturday. Little change in strength is expected on Sunday. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 15 miles (30 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 60 miles (95 km). The estimated minimum central pressure is 992 mb (29.30 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- None.
