Job description For our customer EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany we are seeking an experienced engineer to support within the Image Navigation, Registration and Calibration INRC Competence Area of the Remote Sensing and Products Division RSP. The RSP division is part of the Technical and Scientific Support Department TSS, which provides support to operations of existing satellite systems and to the development of new programmes. The focus of this INR consultancy is mainly in the support of future EUMETSAT geostationary and lowearth orbit programmes, but may also involve support work for existing programmes. Responsibilities Typical activities to be undertaken are Contribute to EUMETSAT existing and future programmes in the development of INR data processing systems, in particular Support the development procurement of the INR data processing systems Support software implementations and modification in delivered INR data processing software Support the verification and validation of INR data processing systems, and their initial operations phase Support the investigation and correction of anomalies related to the performance of INR data processing systems Develop and document prototype software validating INR algorithms andor realize INR processing concepts for future programmes, in particular for highaccuracy processing of instrument data from 3axis stabilised platforms Support the generation of proxydata for INR prototyping or for verificationvalidation of INR data processing systems Develop the inhouse knowledge base related to Image Navigation and Registration INR algorithms and the related software implementations as well as highaccuracy level 1 processing from instruments on GEO and LEO orbits Participation and contributions to formal reviews andor technical meetings This is a fulltime position at EUMETSATs facilities in Darmstadt, Germany with a planned starting date in August 2016. Travelling within Europe might be required. Qualifications Competencies In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, you should have the following skills and work experience. Essential skills are An extensive theoretical knowledge of Level 1 data processing algorithms for Image Navigation and Registration, and geometric correction Sound expertise in software development and proven experience in at least one coding language, preferable CC, in a UNIXLINUX environment Familiarity with at least one tool to support algorithm software development and rapid prototyping, e.g. MATLAB, IDL, Python Handson experience in the design and implementation of estimation filters e.g. Kalman or Least square filters, preferably in an Image Navigation and Registration application context A sound experience in the specification, prototyping, implementation, verification and validation of complex, realtime Level 1 data processing systems for imaging andor sounding instruments on remote sensing spacecraft A thorough understanding of the interaction between instrumentplatform characteristics and processing impact, including product quality Experience in the development of INR processing systems preferable for large multiinstrument operational space programmes Excellent oral and written communication in English The following experience would be an additional asset Knowledge of imaging andor sounding instrumentation for remote sensing spacecraft Knowledge of French is considered an asset You shall be able to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision, have a systematic approach to work, be able to plan your work and cope with tight deadlines under changing conditions. You shall be able to analyse complex problems, distinguishing between critical and less critical information, and to synthesise and clearly present the results of such analyses. Good communication skills verbal and written are important. You shall be willing to work in a team and in cooperation with industry and partner agencies.
