(Telecompaper) Finnish mobile operator DNA said it will launch the first smartphone from Jolla on 27 November. The two Finnish companies have been working together for over a year to develop the phone based on Jolla's Sailfish operating system. A pop-up DNA shop will sell the phones on Narinkkatori in central Helsinki the evening of the launch date, with an initial batch of 450 units available. People who registered earlier to acquire one of the phones will be invited to the event to receive their devices. Consumers have been able to pre-book Jolla phones since May, and the company said "thousands" of Finns have already placed orders. After supplying these customers, the Jolla phones will be available to others at DNA Kauppa outlets in early December. DNA has the exclusive right to sell Jolla phones in Finland. Jolla said on its Twitter feed that it also expects to start shipping pre-booked phones to customers in other countries soon.
