Terma Space operates out of Denmark, The Netherlands, Germany, and the UK. Job description For our customer, EUMETSAT, we are seeking an experienced Spacecraft Operations Engineer to provide support for the routine operations phase of EPS currently, operations of MetopA and MetopB operations preparation, commissioning and subsequent routine operations of MetopC operations preparation of EPSSG operations preparation and commissioning of Copernicus Sentinel3 system and operations preparation of Copernicus Sentinel6 The Operations Engineer be integrated into the Metop Spacecraft Operations Team, led by the LEO Spacecraft Operations Manager, within the Flight Operations Division of the Operations and User Services Department at EUMETSAT. Responsibilities As an Operations Engineer your tasks will typically include Support to the routine operations of Metop A, B and preparing for MetopC, comprising Provision of operational expertise to the Attitude and Orbit Control System in particular, with support to other platform subsystems andor payload instruments andor onboard software management, satellite simulator and ground segment operations interfaces Maintain the corresponding operations documentation and flight procedures, including the update and operational validation of procedures releases in a configuration controlled environment Perform trending and performance analysis on the corresponding subsystems and instruments, including definition and possibly prototyping of additional analysis checks where necessary Investigations into satellite anomalies. This may require a close co operation with the Operations Support Entity in ESTEC and Industry Support the coordination of partner agency interactions for relevant subsystemsinstruments Participation in the satellite oncall support rota Identification and support to implementation of system and process improvements concerning the Metop Spacecraft Operations Team responsibilities and interfaces Support to the system and operations preparation of Metop Second Generation satellites Provide inputs and or review the definition of system and satellite operational concepts Review space to ground interface specifications and flight operations manuals Support the definition of tools and processes required to prepare for and operate the satellites Support to the system and operations preparation of other LEO satellites Provide operations preparation support as required to the Sentinel6 development You will also participate in coordinating the satellite operations activities of other team members and external teams responsible for onboard software management, simulator support, mission control, mission planning, flight dynamics and ground stations. You will support operations during normal working hours, as well as support the oncall operations engineer rota, such that safe and efficient operations are ensured by the Spacecraft Operations Team on a 247 basis. This is a fulltime position located at EUMETSATs premises in Darmstadt, Germany, with an initial contract duration of 2 years, and options to extend. Occasional travel within Europe may be necessary. Working time is normal working hours, plus the oncall engineer rota outside normal working hours. The start date is 1st December 2015. Qualifications Competencies Applicants shall have a university degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline. Applicants shall have demonstrated experience in at least two of the following mandatory skills, with a particular emphasis on ThreeAxis Stabilised Attitude and Orbit Control Systems Spacecraft monitor and control operations Spacecraft operations preparation engineering Low Earth Orbit spacecraft design or Assembly Integration and Test activities at system or subsystem level Fluent written and spoken English It would be a distinct advantage to have knowledge andor experience with the following Inorbit operations of Low Earth Orbit Earth Observation satellites Experience in the operation or development of satellite ground segment facilities, in particular procedure development, monitor and control, mission planning, onboard software management, performance analysis, configuration management and simulator facilities The procedure development tool MOIS and the procedure execution language STOL The mission control systems EPOCH or SCOS Specification of system and operational concepts, facility requirements Familiarity with OnBoard Control Procedure and OnBoard Position Scheduler concepts Familiarity with the ECSS Packet Utilisation Standard, customisation and usage Familiarity with system change control and configuration management procedures Data analysis software packages such as MATLAB File parsing languages such as PERL, AWK Use of VBA for development of adhoc tools in MS Office applications Knowledge of French You will also need to have the characteristics Selfmotivated and able to work in an organised and efficient manner with minimum supervision Strong data analysis, processing and synthesis skills An ability to recognise opportunities for improvements in areas of work and implement appropriate solutions What can Terma offer At Terma, we consider skilled employees, enthusiasm and job satisfaction as the very foundation of our success and as a prerequisite for the development of the bestinclass solutions that Terma provides.
