A vacancy has arisen for a Mechanical Architect with Astrium in Stevenage. The key responsibilities of the role are as follows Management of the Satellite Accommodation Structure verification, Mechanical subsystems including structure, mechanism, booms both in house and sub contract. Team management of thermal and propulsion architects plus dynamic analysis and drawing office personnel. Provide guidance to CAD operators in order to generate drawings and documents for satellite integration. The architect will also have to interface with Integration Verification areas to resolve problems as necessary. Preparation evaluation of test plans and test reports. Maintenance of a data base of equipment mechanical qualification status. Within EADS Astrium we use separate departments specialists in the power, communications, instrument and payload design, product assurancequality assurance, electronics, stress and fracture analysis fields, but the mechanical architect requires an awareness of these disciplines. Present the satellite architecture to customers with the use of presentations and formal design review packs and meetings. Similarly the architect has to agree accept test results from the various phases of build subsystemspacecraft and where necessary defend these at customer delivery reviews. Management of the mechanical analysis team during satellite level environmental testing, including liaison to customer, launch service provider, test facilities and project management. Schedule and cost control using company software. Management of in house and subcontract costs. The successful candidate will demonstrate the following skills and experience PC skills and relevant software experience e.g. FEM, Nastran. Presentation skills, verbal and written communication. Team Leadership Interpersonal skills. Degree in a relevant subject such as Maths Physics Mechanical engineeringAeronautical engineering.
