BACKGROUND The EUMETSAT Polar System Second Generation EPSSG will secure the continuation of meteorological observations from the midmorning polar orbit over a period of 21 years, starting in 202425, based on three successive pairs of MetopSG AB satellites. EPSSG will bring observations to a new standard, through the suite of innovative European instruments flown on the MetopSG spacecraft. These include the Scatterometer SCA and the Radio Occultation RO instruments. Reporting to the EPSSG Instrument Systems Manager, the Microwave Instrument Engineer will followup the ESAled development of the RO and SCA instruments, acquire, maintain and share inhouse knowledge on instrument design, performances and operations aspects. As a member of the EUMETSAT Instrument Functional Chain Team and together with instrument scientists, system, ground segment and operations preparation engineers, the post holder will also be involved in the development, operations preparation and commissioning of the endtoend RO and SCA instrument chains covering all functions from instrument commanding to delivery of products to users. DUTIES Act as the EUMETSAT technical interface to the ESAled SCA and RO instrument project teams to ensure daily coordination of information related to design, test results, expected performances and operations of these instruments Follow the assembly, integration and testing of the SCA and RO instruments and relevant aspects of the MetopSG satellite tests carried out under ESA responsibility Analyse and assess results of SCA and RO testing and qualification including any nonconformances and identify issues having potential implications for the design, development, performances, operations and commissioning of endtoend instrument chains Follow up the development of SCA and RO Level 1 processing algorithms associated ground prototype processors and instrument data simulators, and assess their consistency with the instrument development and their suitability to support the development of operational Level 1 processing chains Act as technical interface to the ground segment team for all technical issues concerning the SCA onground transponders Support the operations preparation and commissioning of the SCA and RO endtoend instrument chains in cooperation with ESA, focusing on instrument operability and performance validation Maintain and share relevant information and knowledge within EUMETSAT on the SCA and RO Instruments Support to other instrument development activities as required EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS Excellent salary, in excess of Euro 7,500 NET after income tax deductions based on skills and experience Flexible working time including additional flexileave Full medical coverage for employee and family Attractive pension 30 days of annual leave 14.5 days public holidays Training and development support Relocation allowance and support if applicable SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Proven engineering experience in the full development cycle of a spaceborne radar or microwave instrument, preferably a Scatterometer or a GNSS receiver Knowledge of Level 0 and Level 1 microwave instrument data processing Knowledge of level 1 algorithms would be an advantage Experience in coordinating technical work with multiple andor multidisciplinary entities, preferably in an international environment Proactive attitude and ability to work autonomously with a minimum of supervision Excellent teamworking, communication, and presentation skills.
