BACKGROUND EUMETSAT is developing the EUMETSAT Polar System of Second Generation EPSSG that includes MetopSG A and MetopSG B satellites developed and procured through ESA. The EPSSG mission will monitor weather and climate from the midmorning polar orbit over a period of 21 years starting in 202425, based on three successive pairs of MetopSG AB satellites. EUMETSAT is also responsible for the delivery to ESAMetopSG of three Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometers New Generation IASING and two ARGOS4 Advanced Data Collection System ADCS instruments developed and procured by the French Space Agency CNES under cooperation agreement with EUMETSAT. Reporting to the EPSSG Instrument Systems Manager, the EPSSG Optical Instrument System Engineer will followup the CNESled development of the IASING and ARGOS4 instruments, acquire, maintain and share inhouse knowledge on instrument design, performances and operations aspects. As a member of the EUMETSAT Instrument Functional Chain Team involving also instrument scientists, system, ground segment and operations preparation engineers, heshe will support the development, operations preparation and commissioning of the endtoend IASING chain covering all functions from instrument commanding to delivery of products to users. DUTIES Act as the EUMETSAT technical interface for the IASING and ARGOS4 instruments liaising externally with CNES and ESA and internally with System, Ground Segment and Science teams. Followup the development of IASING instruments by participating in relevant progress meeting, reviews and other technical meeting with CNES and their contractor. Support IASING and ARGOS4 instrument testing activities at satellite level. Followup IASING level 1C processor development and interact as point of contact with relevant external and internal entities e.g. CNES, EUMETSAT Science team, Ground Segment team, etc.. As a member of the EUMETSAT IASING Instrument Functional Chain Team, support the resolution of nonconformances Participate and contribute to relevant IASI Sounding Science Working Group ISSWG meetings. Support and participate to operations preparation and commissioning of the IASING and ARGOS4 instruments in cooperation with CNES and ESA, focusing on instrument operability and performance validation Support reporting to EUMETSAT management and Member States EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS Excellent salary, in excess of Euro 7,500 NET after income tax deductions based on skills and experience Flexible working time including additional flexileave Full medical coverage for employee and family Attractive pension 30 days of annual leave 14.5 days public holidays Training and development support Relocation allowance and support if applicable SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Proven engineering experience at senior level in the full development cycle of a spaceborne optical instrument Experience with interferometers would be an advantage Knowledge of Level 0 and Level 1 processing of optical instrument data processing Experience in coordinating technical work with multiple andor multidisciplinary entities, preferably in an international environment Proactive attitude and ability to work autonomously with a minimum of supervision Excellent teamworking, communication, and presentation skills.
