Primary role purpose Inmarsat require a Director of Payload Systems Engineering who will report to the VP of Space segment. The Individual will lead the global payload systems engineering team in the development, implementation and delivery of Inmarsat payload systems. The post holder will oversee all aspects of existing, and future, payload projects translating commercial requirements into technical specifications, negotiating infrastructure contracts, leading payload systems to operational readiness and ensuring Inmarsat continues to innovate in the area of payload technology. He or she will contribute significantly to future Inmarsat satellite designs. The successful applicant will support the satellite program managers to ensure that the satellite contractor is compliant with contractual payload specification requirements and will support the operational team to ensure 6 sigma payload availability. The Director, Payload Systems Engineering will lead the Payload System Engineering team located at the satellite manufacturer field offices and in London HQ. Key Responsibilities Manage and lead a team of strong and developing Payload Engineers, provide leadership and management to the group. Translate the marketbusiness needs into payload satellite specifications in collaboration with the Chief Space Systems Architect Negotiate new Space Infrastructure satellite contracts Support the satellite program managers in resolving payload issues that arise during the spacecraft design, assembly, integration and test phase Actively lead the payload system innovation with the aim to continuously improve Inmarsat competitiveness Support the VP, Space Segment in identifying technological choices for an optimum space segment responding to the system needs Provide spacecraft payload engineering support to Operations for the inorbit fleet and support the continuous improvement of the ISAT operational concept Essential Knowledge and Skills Advanced Engineering degree in Satellite Telecommunications. At least fifteen years of experience in satellite design manufacturing test and system engineering. Proven extensive experience and understanding of payload satellite design. Extensive experience in contract negotiations Strong demonstration of technical leadership plus excellent management skills, an ability to manage, motivate and develop team members Excellent writing and reporting skills. Excellent communication skills at all levels of the organization Ability to coach other members of the Satellite Engineering team.
