This is a permanent position, calling for at least 5 years experience of software build environments and tools. You will be placed on assignment based near Frankfurt in Germany for several years. Candidates should ideally be available to start in December 2016. Our client is responsible for establishing and operating weather forecasting and Earth observation satellite programmes with associated data telemetry and dissemination operations. Vast quantities of data are produced and user communities throughout the world are able to access both current and historical data sets. The demanding realtime environment places much emphasis on adherence to quality and configuration management standards and procedures. The main working language is English. The role will embrace Maintenance of asbuilt software build environments Building, packaging and distribution of software releases and patches Support to programmers with respect to software build and development strategies Supporting the delivery of software externally developed and its installation, configuration and testing Investigation into anomalies, their documentation and classification Participation in technical meetings and formal reviews Analysis of maintenance requirements and identification, procurement or implementation of the tools to fulfil them writing maintenance procedures Interfacing with external suppliers who are providing maintenance services The key experience and attributes sought are Software build environments and tools like autoconfautomake, make, ANT, Maven UnixLinux command line tools Version control systems like CVS, Subversion, ClearCase, git Various software packaging formats like RPM, PKG, LPP, tgz Scripting languages e.g. Shell, Perl, TclTk, Python Networking, distributed applications, and TCPIP services Centralised software installation PXETFTP, NIM, AutoYast, kickstart, Jumpstart Basic UNIX system administration CC programming languages Java programming language Change management processes Candidates should possess a University degree or equivalent.
