You will have the opportunity to provide support to European Southern Observatory ESO in the Software Engineering and Quality Group SEQ in the Department of Science Operations Software SCS. The department provides development teams with software engineering services, including the testing of software applications during all phases of the development lifecycle. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include You will be testing software applications for the ALMA project according to ALMA standards and processes. You will regularly interacting with developers and science users to collect and understand the user requirements. You will producing test cases, plans, and reports. You will be analyzing test results, and investigating the root causes in collaboration with the developers. You will be maintaining the existing automated test suites. You will be defining, and maintaining effective test environments. Platforms used are Linux and Mac OS. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory You have a University degree in Computer Science or equivalent. You have proven experience testing Java Desktop GUIs under Linux andor Mac OS You have proven experience testing dynamic web applications, including JavaScriptcentric single page applications You have sufficient programming experience in Java, especially writing and improving comprehensive test cases You have proven experience with relational databases and designing SQL queries You have proven experience in the use of testing tools like Selenium or QFTest You have good knowledge of test automation You have good knowledge scripting languages, preferably Groovy andor Python You have sufficient exposure to version control systems, preferably Git You have very good command of the English language You have very good oral and written communication skills You have a team spirit and eagerness to learn and understand complex operational environments You are customeroriented and you have a strong sense for quality development. The following skills would be highly desirable You have knowledge of Unit test frameworks like Junit or TestNG You have knowledge of general purpose software testing techniques equivalence partition, combinatorial, pairwise, boundary conditions, etc. You have knowledge of JavaScript You have experience in the use of continuous integration systems e.g. Jenkins You have knowledge of administering Linux.
