For our activities in ESOC, we are currently seeking three Space Debris Engineers Operational Software Engineer OSE Application Software Engineer ASE and Research and Cooperation RAC. Tasks Tasks incl. the oncall service shall be distributed among the three engineers according to the needs of the Space Debris Office HSOGR. Operational Software Engineer OSE Administration and support of DISCOS users, management of access rights Maintenance of the DISCOS database in order to ensure the availability and accessibility of the DISCOS database and its associated services odata acquisition and ingestion, omaintenance and operation of scripts and tools organising automatic data retrieval and database processes oconsistency checks oORACLElevel maintenance oorganisation, execution, archival and retrieval and of backups omonitoring of completeness and data quality omaintenance of data quality records ointerfacing with the IT support for related matters Upgrade of the DISCOS database oInstallation of upgrades of DISCOS components or applications oAlignment of the DISCOS webbased front end and administration tools with upgrades Maintenance of the DISCOS operational environment oMaintenance of the data server and of the data archive oMaintenance of the DISCOS application server Improvements of the DISCOS webbased frontend oBy making use of the Java containers delivered to ESA, perform adhoc implementations of new functions basically restricted to graphical visualisation and data browsing functionalities, test and checkout. oAlignment of DISCOS features with the new HSOGR visualisation showroom strategy Maintenance and update of DISCOS user documentation and of the database administration manual Issue of periodical reports oissue of monthly status and activity reports oissue of semiannual EsaROS, EsaLOG, and EsaLOF reports Mar., Sep. oissue of semiannual logs of ESA objects in space Jan., Jul. oissue of annual logs of ESA launches Jan., for the past year oissue of annual GEO status reports Jan. oissue of COSPAR launch tables Apr., Aug., Dec. determination and covariance estimation of the chaser object, based on European tracking data radar and optical data oRecommendation of an avoidance manoeuvre if required oVerification of a prediction , LEOP and spacecraft contingency matters Application Software Engineer ASE Support to the implementation of an updated LASCO batch process for ballistic parameter estimation and subsequent orbit prediction of all catalogued objects for reentry warnings in DISCOS oAnalysis of areas of potential improvement in LASCO oImplementation of one option Maintenance of the LASCO software and software documentation oCorrective and routine maintenance oCustomization and installation of the software and of required support tools oOrganisation of data archival Setup and maintenance of a space debris application web portal oDistribution of MASTER and DRAMA licenses oDistribution of MASTER and DRAMA upgrades oDistribution of solar activity predictions and data updates to MASTER and DRAMA oGeneration of the updates oInterfacing with development contractor Maintenance of the DRAMA software and software documentation oCorrective and routine maintenance oCustomization and installation of the software and of required support tools oOrganisation of data archival Application of DRAMA, MASTER in support of ESA missions on request by projects oanalyses on the sizing of fuel budget for collision avoidance and for compliance with space debris mitigation requirements oimpact risk, damage and survivability assessments oorbital lifetime estimates and suggest EOL strategies oreentry casualty predictions oDocumentation of the results Rerun Scarab model runs oBased on existing Scarab models, rerun the reentry simulation based on newly specified parameters oAdopt the model slightly if requested and rerun oDocument the results movie and PDF, technical note Support the generation of standard documents like the annual Classification of geosynchronous objects and the annual LEO EOL activity report Maintenance of the DELTA software and software documentation oCorrective and routine maintenance oCustomization and installation of the software and of required support tools oOrganisation of data archival Amendment to the software in the following areas oModified and optimised time and volume binning oNew scenarios according to IADC cases oHandling of solar activity as a statistical parameter oAutomated generation of input population from the MASTER format oOperation of DELTA for internal and IADC studies oUpdate of the DELTA software and software documentation Installation of the SCARAB 3.1L software on the space debris servers oMaintenance of the turnkey SCARAB software system oFamiliarisation with the software oOperation of the software for test cases, modified operational cases and later new cases oRetrieval of design information in support of SCARAB CAD input modelling Research and Cooperation RAC Provide Training on HSOGR software and processes to and support following up the work of on request oYoung Graduate Trainees oResearch Fellows oStudents conducting internships at the space debris office oPotentially new contractors replacements or additional Represent ESA at the IADC annual meetings oAct as ESA representative in the working groups of the IADC oPrepare and deliver presentations on behalf of ESA content to be agreed by ESA oTake actions and perform the required analysis and communication with other working group members Take the role of the space debris office during CDF sessions oAttend to CDF sessions as a primebackup representative of HSOGR oTake actions and perform the required analysis oPresent the results and promote the capabilities of HSOGR Support the organisation of conferences and workshops oProvide administrative help to the organisation of workshops and conference by HSOGR oFollowup the proper layout of room, catering and registration oSupport the conference execution logistically oSupport the conference execution scientifically with contributions, interviews or as session chairman Perform oral presentations promoting recent research and work performed at the space debris office at international conferences once per year, and support related public relation or outreach activities Followup external development contracts Scarab models, DISCOS developments, developments in the area of CRASS, DRAMA, ODIN oSupport the specification of the work oOrganise the required input documentation and files oPerform acceptance test of the delivered software models oReview the deliverables and participate to progress meetings Support the followup of study contracts including activities not led by HSOGR, such as SSA, Cleanspace,... oSupport the specification of new study tasks oParticipate to TEBs and take and follow respective actions oSupport the followup of the studies, actively participate in reviews and help providing CFIs if required in the required state SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE The candidate proposed for these tasks shall have competence in some or all of the following areas depending on the WP requirements Coordinate Systems Orbital Mechanics Space Debris Matters observation, modelling, mitigation, risk assessment Orbit determination aspects Software engineering Versioning systems and configuration management Database systems, in particular the use of SQL Basic understanding of the hardware PCs, RAID, back up mechanisms ... HSOGR Application Software DRAMA, MASTER, PROOF, DELTA Ensuring a seamless operation of the software systems in routine processes, retrieval of the necessary data A high degree of independence Understand the way the CDF works Understand the way the IADC works Have knowledge in related ESA internal processes TEB etc..
