Spacecraft Operations Engineer XMM INTEGRAL mf The Mission ESA operates two observatory missions, XMMNewton and INTEGRAL, from its operation centre, ESOC, in Darmstadt, Germany. The XMMNewton mission is an ESA Science mission that provides observations of Xray objects such as black holes, neutron stars or active galactic nuclei. XMM was launched in 1999 and is planned to be operated at least until at least the end of 2016. INTEGRAL is ESAs gamma ray observatory, which can simultaneously observe objects in gamma rays, Xrays and visible light. Its principal targets are violent explosions producing gammaray bursts, powerful phenomena such as supernova explosions, and regions in the Universe thought to contain black holes. INTEGRAL was launched in 2002. The INTEGRAL and XMM flight control teams are partially merged, so that in addition to their prime responsibilities, members of each team provide backup and oncall support for both missions.
