Post Young Graduate Trainee for System Engineering This post is classified F1. Location ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands. Our team and mission The Mission Studies Office is responsible for assessmentdefinition studies and associated technology preparation activities of the ESA science missions in early phases 0, A, B1. The Office is organized in 2 sections, namely Solar System Missions Section, handling system definition studies in the field of solar system missions and Astrophysics and Fundamental Physics Missions Section, in the field of astrophysics and fundamental physics missions. The Mission Studies Office is part of the Future Missions Department, which has the overall responsibility for definition and technology preparation of future science missions, and for small missions implementation. Interested candidates are encouraged to visit the ESA website httpwww.esa.int Fields of activities Various opportunities can be offered within the Office in the context of assessmentdefinition studies and associated technology development for future ESA science missions, either in the Solar System Missions Section or in the Astrophysics and Fundamental Physics Missions Section, depending on the background of the Young Graduae Trainee YGT. Activities identified where the candidate could play a role working alongside experienced engineers and physicists are Mission concept and mission profile tradeoffs Definition andor review of instrument and mission requirements Analysis of spacecraft design and related system budgets Studies of instrument accommodation at spacecraft level Instrument performance and sensitivitytolerance analysis Mission related Technology Development Preparation of study tools. Technical competencies Knowledge of relevant technical domains Relevant experience gained during internshipsproject work Breadth of exposure coming from past andor current researchactivities Knowledge of ESA and its programmesprojects Behavioural competencies Self Motivation Communication Continuous Learning CrossCultural Sensitivity Teamwork Education Applicants should have just completed, or be in their final year of a University course at Masters Level or equivalent in a technical or scientific discipline in the field of system engineering or other technical fields with a space mission background. Additional requirements In addition, applicants should demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the capacity to work both independently and as part of a team. Applicants must be fluent in English andor French, the working languages of the Agency. A good proficiency in English is required. During the interview the candidates motivation and overall professional perspectivecareer goals will also be explored.
