Young Graduate Traineeship Opportunity in the Directorate of Human Spaceflight and Robotic Exploration Programmes. Post Young Graduate Trainee for System Engineering for Lunar Exploration This post is classified F1. Location ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands, Our team and mission The Lunar Exploration Office is responsible for the set up and implementation of a cooperation between ESA and the Russian Space Agency ROSCOSMOS on Lunar Exploration. The objectives are to flightprove technologies and capabilities for future exploration missions and to gain knowledge to plan safe, effective and efficient human exploration at the Moon. Within this cooperation framework, ESA will provide products and services to the upcoming Russian robotic missions, particularly to a landing mission planned in 20222023, followed by a sample return mission. The European contributions encompass several elements precision and safe landing, lowtemperature drilling and sample analysis instrument, landing site characterisation and operations support. Phase C of these elements will start in 2018 including detailed design, engineering models manufacturing and extensive testing in various facilities, contracted to European industries. The Lunar Lander Team is also supporting feasibility studies of other future lunar missions as well as related technological activities. Interested candidates are encouraged to visit the ESA website www.esa.intESA Fields of activities The selected Young Graduate Trainee YGT will be assigned in support to the Lunar Exploration Office. The YGT shall work principally in support of the Phase C activities of the European elements in view of preparing the Critical Design Review. This includes the support of technical coordination activities between the Russian mission and system, and the European elements. The associated analyses and simulations, particularly in the area of landing Navigation and Hazard Detection and Avoidance shall represent a major part of the work. An additional focus on mission and system aspects shall be tailored depending on the precise needs at the time and on the capabilities of the selected individual. In particular... Additional requirements Knowledge in one or more of the following fields is a plus simulation environment e.g. MatlabSimulink, computer vision. Applicants must be fluent in English andor French, the working languages of the Agency. A good proficiency in English is required. In addition to the above competencies, applicants should demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the capacity to work both independently and as part of a team During the interview the candidates motivation and overall professional perspectivecareer goals will also be explored.
