EU's apparel imports have recovered in September, growing for the first time since the start of the pandemic. The rebound of the euro has helped to keep prices under control, as reflected by our data. Our report covers monthly EU-27 clothing import data per origin, with historical trends being analyzed, and focusing on China vs. the Rest of the World (RoW) and Bangladesh, and knit vs. woven clothing. Data are supplied in euros and US dollars with historical data available for download, back to January 2002.

China's share of the EU's clothing import market has resisted the pandemic's negative impact in value terms. Imports from Turkey have gained shares of the market in the third quarter as European buyers favored last-minute orders to limit risks. Our comprehensive reports cover the third quarter and January-September 2020 for knit, woven, and total apparel imports from outside the EU-27 area. China has experienced a rebound in economic activity in November, reflected by a rise in retail sales and a surge in exports. Textile production has recovered, with prices less significantly dropping at factory gates as a result. Polyester chain prices rose further in the last seven days in Asia, over the recent rise in crude oil prices. The looming sanitary crisis in Western countries could depress demand and prices, however. Our weekly report covers the polyester chain in Asia, including PX (paraxylene), PTA (purified terephthalic acid), MEG (mono ethylene glycol), polyester chips, and polyester staple and filament prices.
