Engineer, Ground Segment Systems, Operations Architecture Ref SES0672 Region Europe Location Luxembourg Betzdorf Company SES Category Space Operations Position Staff Published 20150923 Context The Engineer, Ground Segment Systems, Operations Architecture will be responsible for Ensuring the quality of Ground Control Systems GCS deployed to SES operations by applying appropriate system testing methods and processes Leading the creation of a new automated testing environment for Ground Control Systems Producing specifications for GCS upgrades for operations of future satellites Management of satellite telemetry and telecommand databases Development and verification of automated flight procedures in SPELL Specifying and coordinating the development of applications and interfaces to further improve SES fleet operations safety and automation. The Engineer, Ground Segment Systems, Operations Architecture will work in close cooperation with software engineers, satellite operators and satellite engineers to achieve these goals. Responsibilities Development of automated testing environment for ground software and satellite procedures Execution of Ground Control System testing Developing the specification of GCS upgrades and readiness of databases for operations of future satellites Definition and traceability of Ground Control Systems Requirement Management of satellite databases, including development of algorithms for improved satellite monitoring derived parameters Development and maintenance of offline and online tools for more efficient and safer operations Development and verification of automated operations procedures Support the smooth integration of newly procured satellites platforms in the fleet operations Support the migration of inorbit satellites platforms in the SES fleet operations Specify and support the development of applications and interfaces to further improve SES fleet operations safety and automation. Experience Qualifications Languages for automation of Satellite Operations SPELL, CECIL, ARES, PIL Python, C, C Relational databases, SQL SVN, GIT, Eclipse IDE Windows, LinuxSLESUNIX Requirement test management software Test automation tools At least 3 years of experience in satellite engineering, software engineering or satellite operations Good knowledge in software testing methods, types and processes Experience in ground system use, procurement and operational readiness projects System view and understanding of all the disciplines involved in the satellite operations satellite engineering, ground software and hardware, baseband, TTC chain, operations, with a strong motivation to develop them further Excellent knowledge of Python and of the key technologies required daily to do the job, or a strong motivation to develop this knowledge. Your Tasks Include The Key person will perform system engineering activities such as Requirements engineering, which consists in requirements analysis and validation, requirements allocation, tracing, and requirements change control Functional analysis and architecture design applying system modeling engineering methods and techniques Ground Segment components specification Interface definition System analyses, performed for the purpose of resolving requirements conflicts, decomposing and allocating requirements, assessing system effectiveness Tradeoff studies for assessing effectiveness, risk, cost and planning for the implementation of changes requested by operations users and customers. The Key person is expected to perform the following specific tasks Build models of Subsystem of the Reference Architecture Ground Segment, capturing their requirements, describing the internal architecture and defining their external interfaces Support the generation, review and maintenance of the documentation of the Reference Architecture Subsystems addressing their architecture, functions, requirements and interfaces Support the management of the requirements of the Reference Architecture subsystem and Components, heeding on the evolution of the operational system and future systems, using DOORS Categorize and link relevant Subsystem and Component requirements to the model for traceability Refine the processes and working practices established for the application of the Model Based Systems Engineering and the use of Vitech CORE Analysis of Engineering Change Requests issued for evolution of the operational ground segments In the performance of these tasks, the Key person shall apply the Clients configuration and change control procedures as well as the relevant system engineering standards, quality management procedures and maintenance procedures. Your Profile MANDATORY SKILLS The Key person shall have a university degree or equivalent in an engineering discipline relevant to the job profile together with the experience and capability to fulfill the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision. Knowledge and experience with the following is considered essential Extensive experience in the analysis of systems applications and modeling At least 5 years demonstrated experience in the field of systems engineering and architectural design Space and Ground System engineering processes, and System and Software lifecycles and standards. Experience in Model Based Systems Engineering methods, techniques and tools Experience in the use of modeling and design tools in support of architectural design activities e.g. Vitech CORE, Enterprise Architect Definition, management and traceability of requirements structure with the support of dedicated tools e.g. DOORS. DESIRABLE BUT NOT MANDATORY ADDITIONAL SKILLS Previous working experience in system engineering aspects of SystemGround Systems for MeteorologicalEarth Observation Satellites would be an advantage. Experience in evolution management andor product line management of assets shared across organizational parts is desirable. Familiarity with formal architecture frameworks e.g., MODAF, TOGAF, DODAF will be a valuable appreciated asset. The Key person shall be able to fulfill the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision, have a systematic approach to work, be able to plan hisher work and to cope with tight schedules and multiple parallel tasks. Heshe shall have the capability to write accurate and consistent technical documentation. Good communications skills verbal and written are important. Heshe shall be willing to work in a team of engineers and in cooperation with industry and partner agencies. Due to the nature of the position, the Key person shall have good interpersonal skills and proactive attitude with strong ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment.
