SPECIFIC TASKS The Position is mainly working on GALILEO Ground Segment processing facilities, in a role supporting the GALILEO Ground Mission Segment GMS team In particular, the detailed specific tasks include Evaluation of GMS design and evolution, with a specific focus on GMS Algorithms and performances incl. RAMS aspects, ensuring the design, development, deployment, verification, tuning and validation of the Ground Segment functions that generate and monitor the navigation products i.e. Ephemeris, Clock, Group Delay, Code Phase Biases, etc. in line with the allocated performances for service provision i.e. accuracy, continuity, integrity and availability requirements and development constraints Evaluate GMS design evolutions for robustness improvements eg. barrier enhancement and new functions Followup of the procurement actions related to the implementation of a set of GMS Elements including support to the monitoring of industrial contracts for the developments and generating and reviewing relevant documentation such as technical requirements Participation to GMS related Integration, Verification and Qualification IVQ activities, such as test cases definition and preparation, formal tests witnessing, Verification Credit collection at Element and Segment level, anomalies followup at Element, Segment and System level Support to GMS engineering activities, as well as Galileo System level engineering activities, such as requirement engineering, change management and baseline evolutions DCPsDCNs, assessment of contractors RFDsRFWs new services evaluation and contribution to proposal assessments Contribution to GMS and System reviews and support to Galileo Ground Segment next generation developments. REQUIREMENTS Masters degree in telecommunications and signal processing, electronic engineering, computer science or other scientific disciplines, as well as experience in these fields. Experience in the management and monitoring of industrial activities, including participation in reviews. Specific knowledge in the design and testing of Ground Segment algorithms related to the generation and monitoring of the navigation products i.e. Ephemeris, Clock, Group Delay, Code Phase Biases.... Specific knowledge on algorithms for clock ensembles, realtime clock anomaly detection and automatic fault compensation is considered an asset. Knowledge on Resource Abstraction layers e.g. hyper convergence, virtualisation, containerisation and data centric processing. Knowledge of Agile software engineering techniques, in particular SAFe methodology, is an asset. The applicant shall have experience relevant with the GNSS and GALILEO systems and equipment and have good knowledge of Radio Navigation processing, simulation and testing systems. Position Reference 1008 We are currently looking for a Software Defined Radio SDR Architect. The SDR Architect will support the development of SDRs for RHEA endtoend Cyber Security Testbed for SpaceGround Communication Networks CEST Lab in Luxembourg premises. The CEST is a multifunctional testbed for demonstrating endtoend space and terrestrial communication networks established through SDRs components. The deployed SDRs will initially be prototyped and tested in a lab environment and then will be employed in commercial operations. The SDR Architect will also be responsible for implementing methods for SDR data acquisition to ensure successful testing, verification, and validation. The successful candidate in this role requires significant previous experience in designing, developing, and testing many SDRs particularly on rapid timelines. We are looking for engineers that enjoy a challenge and have a track record of creative thinking to solve unconventional problems. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Set up and operate laboratory based SDR hardwaresoftware. Responsible for design, development, and testing of all SDR software and hardware including its FPGA and host interface. Evaluating SDRs for incorporation into different space gateway, payload, enduser, and spacecraft systems andor terrestrial endtoend networks. Updating or developing Linux device drivers and host interface software to interact with the SDRs. Code the protocols, baseband processing, and MAC for SDRbased products. Developing test software and drivers to support unit, integration, and system testing of all SDR software functions. Developing software code in one or more languages between C, C, C, Java, MATLAB, Python in a Linux or Windows environment. Working with other software team members to benchmark space andor terrestrial network applications to identify candidates blocks for migration into FPGAs. Designing inhouse IP blocks for core space andor terrestrial networks in a hardware description language Verilog, VHDL. Testing and validating hardware blocks both in simulation and on target. Writing and maintaining documentation for inhouse IP blocks and other SDR related software. Developing software and algorithms, machinelearning algorithms, or artificial intelligence techniques and applying them to digital RF signal processing, RF engineering or spectrum theory, communication systems, electronic warfare. Perform RF signal reception and transmission of data using various modulations schemes FSK, PSK, QAM, etc. as well as transmission schemes TDMA, FDMA, CDMA , into SDR devices. Good knowledge on RF Baseband level interference management solutions. Highly committed, excellent teamworker, and strong critical thinking skills. The candidates are expected to actively contribute to the different research projects, either coordinating technical contribution andor preparing project deliverables. Contributing to new research proposals to attract industrial, national and European projects. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory Masters or Bachelors degree in TelecommunicationElectricalComputer Engineering or related field. At least 3 years of recent experience working with SDRs. Experience with device drivers for communication between Linux user space andor terrestrial network applications and FPGAs. Experience of FPGA design flows Xilinx, Altera. Experience with SoC System on Chip platforms such as the Zynq. Working knowledge of interface protocols AXI, OCP Ability to create detailed testbenches for benchmarking and testing deployed SDRs. Ability to work with at least one hardware description language Verilog, VHDL. Experience using SDR lab equipment for testing and validation. Experience with implementing DSP algorithms in FPGAs. Experience working with multiple programming languages C, C, scripting languages Python, Bash, operating systems, and development environments. Experience of working with industrial projects and public funded research projects. Ability to work in a team in an international environment. The following skills would be highly desirable Experience developing cybersecurity algorithms encryption, decryption, other Experience in European Space Agency projects.
