We are currently looking for a Ground Segment End to End System and Validation Engineer to support our customer in Germany. Ground Segment End to End System and Validation Engineer Key Tasks and Responsibilities Our customer is a European organisation providing satellite operations and ground station tracking network services to its users. As part of the Ground Segment Engineering team, you will have the following responsibilities Setup and maintenance of the Integration and Test reference environment and relevant configuration installation and integration of infrastructure application releases creation and maintenance of virtual machines containing a collection of infrastructure applications creation and maintenance of test databases, containing the static and dynamic data required to perform the systems validation activities participation in Progress Meeting and Reviews production and maintenance of technical documentation, including test plans and test reports. Skills Experience You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience Relevant University degree competence in one or more modern computer languages such as C, C, Java, UML, XML, SQL, depending on the requirements of the work competence in C familiarity with UNIX or LINUX environments knowledge of the CORBA Standard knowledge and experience in database administration Fluency in English is mandatory knowledge of another European language is an advantage. TASKS The Consultant shall support the MTG user preparation activities through coordination of the MTG User Preparation Project. Additionally, they will support some of the user engagement activities identified in this Project. The consultant will be part of the User Support Team and will work with experts across EUMETSAT and partners organisations. The main tasks of the consultant, within the coordination role, are Maintain the MTG User Preparation Project plan and associated documentation and schedule related activities Collect and collate project inputs from all internal stakeholders, in particular those parts of the Remote Sensing and Products RSP Division providing the scientific development support for the MTG Programme and the teams within the Geostationary Programme Division GEO responsible for providing the operational Level 1 and Level 2 processors Arrange and attend regular MTG User Preparation Project team meetings and prepare meeting reports as required Record and monitor any open actions associated with the MTG User Preparation Project Prepare inputs to management reports on the status of the MTG User Preparation Project Keep abreast of guidelines issued by the WMO regarding user readiness activities for next generation satellites and prepare inputs and followup actions as required. The main tasks of the consultant, within the supporting preparation activities, are Support external coordination and user engagement activities for MTG user preparation, e.g. supporting RSP workshops, preparing and collating results from user surveys, etc. Support the Web Content Developers in the preparation of content for the MTG user information area on the EUMETSAT website Support the Training Team with updated information on the status of the MTG User Preparation Project for inclusion in training events.

Hyperspectral Sounding Products Generation Prototyping Specification and Validation Engineer

One of our Space clients based in Germany is looking for a Hyperspectral Sounding Products Generation Prototyping Specification and Validation Engineer to work as part of the HSIRL2 team, contributing to the specifications documentation and prototyping of the IASING principal components referred to as L1D in EPSSG context and L2 products generation functions and to the support of the operational software implementation during the initial development phase of the Payload Data Acquisition and Processing. Additionally, the engineer will support the preparation and completion of the commissioning of IASIMetopC. The submission deadline for applicants is 27th January 2015. Key tasks Analysis of similarities and specificities to the IASI and IASING processing within the EPS and EPSSG contexts and the required products, with the aim to maximise algorithm reuse. Maintenance and evolution of the IASING products generation specification documents, taking into account the above identified commonalities and specificities. Maintenance and evolution of the documentation including new science resulting from internal developments or external studies or contributions. Contribution to the review and analysis of specification documents for the input data to the IASING processing chain, e.g. IASI L1c, MWS L1b etc. Contribute to clarifications and answers to issues raised during the reviews of IASING L1D and L2 documentations evolve the IASING products generation specification documents taking the review outcome into account. Support the porting and reuse of IASI processing software in the context of EPSSG for IASING, including the preparation and documentation of SW packages, test and verification data. Prototype functions of the IASING L1D and L2 processing chain. Adapt and evolve the existing IASI L2 operational processor to form an IASING prototype, e.g. make it ready to ingest IASING and MWS L1 synthetic test data. Contribution to the harmonisation of the IASI and IASING processors. Integration and verification of external software deliveries in the prototype processor. Software anomaly fixing. Code optimisation. Development and documentation of prototype software and test procedures. Generation of test data. Statistical analysis and visualisation of hyperspectral infrared principal components and Level 2 products. Support L2 monitoring facilities and interpretation. Contribution to validation reports for IASI operational and IASING prototype products. Qualifications University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline such as computer science, mathematics, physics, astrophysics, meteorology or remote sensing. Skills At least three years of experience in the field of scientific computing. Numerical algorithms. Development and testing of complex scientific software. Documentation of complex scientific software. Generation and documentation of test data and test procedures. Handling and processing of big amounts of data. NetCDF format and using associated libraries. Object oriented techniques for scientific computing. Concurrent SW development in a team and Software tools for revision control. Very good skills in C. Advanced use of data analysis and visualisation with tools like IDL or Matlab, preferably with satellite data. Good English skills are essential. The ability to write clear and concise scientific reports as well as clear and exhaustive scientific SW documentation in English. Experience Experience in some of the following areas is expected and will be an advantage Inverse problems. Principal component analysis. Further mathematical modelling techniques nonlinear optimization, regression, neural networks, Kalman filters, etc.. Familiarity with satellite data, preferably from IASI or other hyperspectral infrared instruments Use of radiative transfer models. Retrieval of atmospheric parameters from infrared andor microwave radiances Software testing. Validation and visualization of satellite products. Software libraries for numerical linear algebra and similar subroutines. Experience with further programming relevant languages and tools such as Perl, Python, Java, etc. Multithreads programming.
