Microsoft presents first Lumia smartphones to get Windows 10

(Telecompaper) Microsoft continues to target the entry-lebel and mid-range smartphone market, with two new Lumia smartphones presented at Mobile World Congress. The Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL run Windows 8.1 and will be among the first to get the upgrade to Windows 10, Microsoft's new operating system that was demonstrated for the first time in a mobile version at MWC. Microsoft confirmed that Windows 10 will launch later this year. The Lumia 640 comes with a 5-inch screen, 2,500 mAh battery and 8 megapixel camera, while the XL version offers a bigger 5.7-inch display, 3,000 mAh battery and 13 megapixel camera. Both feature LED flash, a front-facing camera for video calling, and Lumia Camera software. The phones will come in versions with dual-Sim support and 3G or 4G. Microsoft provides a one-year subscription to Office 365 Personal with the new Lumias, which also works on one other PC, Mac or tablet, as well as 60 free minutes of Skype Unlimited Worldwide calling per month. The Lumia 640 XL will begin rolling out globally in March and will be available in matte cyan, orange and black, as well as matte and glossy white. The Lumia 640 will be available starting in April and will be available in glossy cyan, orange and white, as well as matte black. The Lumia 640 is estimated to cost around EUR 139 for the 3G model and EUR 159 for the LTE model, before taxes and subsidies, and the Lumia 640 XL will cost EUR 189 for 3G and EUR 219 for LTE.
