Contribute to Operational Processors related meetings Ideal candidate The ideal candidates should bring the following skills and experience The following skills and experience are mandatory You have a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline e.g. Computer Science andor Software Engineering, Atmospheric Physics, Remote Sensing or comparable qualifications in an operational Data Processing field, with more than 10 years experience in related domains. EPSSG Senior Space Segment Engineer

This post supports the cooperation with ESA on the space segment for the EUMETSAT Polar System Second Generation EPSSG Metop Second Generation MetopSG programme. After an initial introduction phase at EUMETSAT, the duty station will be in the ESA establishment in the Netherlands ESTEC, Noordwijk. The post holder will report to the ESA MetopSG Project Manager as a member of the established joint Single Space Segment Team SSST whilst maintaining close coordination with the EPSSG Programme Manager in EUMETSAT. Up until the end of commissioning of both protoflight model satellites 2024 of MetopSG, the duty station will remain at ESTEC, Noordwijk, Netherlands and may be then moved to the EUMETSAT Headquarters afterwards DUTIES Represent EUMETSAT in the Single Space Segment Team SSST for technical and programmatic aspects In the role of Deputy Project Manager for MetopSG, assist and report to the ESA MetopSG Project Manager Support the ESA Project Manager in the implementation of the MetopSG satellite development activities, including management of industry partners Coordinate all matters related to the Space Segment and the deliverables exchanged between EUMETSAT and ESA Launcher Interfaces, Customer Furnished Item CFI instruments, Simulators, Databases, etc. Provide technical expertise on the satellite requirements and performance Maintain regular reporting and coordination with the EUMETSAT EPSSG team to ensure coherence of satellite and system development activities Coordinate programmatic activities relating to EUMETSAT CFI instruments, as required in the frame of the satellite preparation activities Provide technical support to the launcher interface definition and evolutions Support the definition and implementation of the launch campaigns of the satellites Support the preparation and execution of the Launch and Early Operations Phase LEOP Support the preparation and execution of the Satellite InOrbit Verification and Commissioning activities Support the definition and monitor the execution of the satellites storage activities Followup the health status of the inorbit satellites and organise support from Industry as required e.g. anomalies, complex operations, etc. Ensure that inorbit experience is taken into account for the preparation of the recurrent satellites Support to EPS Third Generation definition phase. QUALIFICATIONS University degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent. Candidates must be able to work effectively in English and have some knowledge of French. SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE A minimum of ten years professional experience in Space Segment engineering, procurement and management, preferably in the frame of an Earth Observation satellite development programme Excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to apply these to the interactions with teams having different or conflicting interests Proven ability to understandsynthesise complex issues and appreciate conflicting interests Capability to propose the steps necessary to control risks and guide critical decisions. EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS The initial contract will be of 4 years duration, with subsequent 5 year contracts being awarded thereafter, subject to individual performance and organisation requirements. There is no limit to the amount of followup contracts a staff member can receive up to the EUMETSAT retirement age of 63 and there are certainly opportunities to establish a long career perspective at EUMETSAT. This post is graded A4A5 on the EUMETSAT salary scales. The minimum basic salary for this post is EURO 8047 per month net of internal tax which may be negotiable based on skills and experience. The salary scale provides for increments on the anniversary of taking up employment, and scales are reviewed by the EUMETSAT Council with effect from 1 January each year. For our customer in Darmstadt we are looking for a System Interface Engineer to support the forthcoming EPSSG European Polar System Second Generation Earth observation mission. Our customer EUMETSAT is an independent intergovernmental organisation founded in 1986 to establish maintain and exploit European systems of operational meteorological satellites and to contribute to the operational monitoring of the climate and the detection of global climate changes. A further objective of EUMETSAT is to provide data, products and support services to the European Copernicus information services and user communities, with a focus on marine, atmosphere and climate. EUMETSAT is governed by a Council representing 30 Member States and 1 Cooperating State. The EPSSG System Engineer will be supporting the EUMETSATs Low Earth Orbit Division LEO in the field of system engineering. Heshe will be contributing to the phase CD system engineering activities related to the specification, design and development of the EPSSG system with focus on satellite and operational related aspects within the system. The activities will primarily include overall system aspects involving the space segment satellites and the ground segment, consisting of data acquisition systems, monitoring and control systems, as well as data processing facilities and product dissemination facilities. The end to end responsibility will also include the supervision of the development of the related satellite flight control procedures. The successful candidate will perform the following tasks Manage the OBSW images delivered to EUM and maintain adequate configuration of the OBSW tool in coordination with the Ops Prep satellite team. This, with the objective to ensure harmonisation of the management on ground and on board of the images. Produce the OBSW Ops Guide and related operation procedures. Responsible for the end to end operational concept to manage reference and characterisation Databases being delivered to EUMETSAT. This also includes operational interfaces with industry. Define for each type of Database its life cycle and configuration control for operation usage. This will also imply the definition of Operations Department OPS documentation, procedures and working practices. In charge of the development of the Satellite Operational Database based on the Satellite Reference Database and OPIT inputs. Manage the Operational Database against changes to successive Satellite Reference Databases deliveries. Provide a single interface within OPIT for the Satellite and Instrument Characteristic Databases and support FDF and PDAP experts for their respective Databases. Contribute to OICDs with external partners with respect to OBSW and Databases items. Manage Ops Prep database editor tool and OBSW tool environments. Contribute to the setting up of the OPS Configuration Management CM tool to manage satellite and ground configuration control. Coordinate the needs for operational configurations of the OBSW tools, procedures and Databases for a multi ground segment environments OPE, VAL, ENG and multisatellites. Provide services to the MCO and PDAP ground segment development teams as Ops Prep representative with respect to OBSW and Databases interfaces and tools. Ideal candidate In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the key person shall have a demonstrated experience of at least three years in the field of spacecraft and ground segment operations with specific experience as follow Satellite operation preparation and routine operations phases OBSW maintenance expertise with good knowledge of Configuration Management CM processes for both ground images and onboard memory management Satellite Databases management in the frame of the operation preparation phase Experience on Operation Preparation tools such as procedure editor and databases management tools Familiarity with the definition of operational interfaces and interactions with industry or external partners.
