Dutch quad-play households grow to 775,000 in Q1

(Telecompaper) The number of Dutch households with quad-play subscriptions, including both fixed and mobile services, grew to 775,000 at the end of March 2016, according to Telecompaper's Dutch Consumer Multiplay Market report. More than 11 percent of all broadband subscriptions were part of quad-play plans at the end of Q1 2016, up from 7.3 percent a year earlier. The greater number of quad-play subscribers is also leading to an increase in associated revenues. The 4P revenues increased to 17 percent of all multiplay revenues in the market, from almost 11 percent a year ago.

Apple takes 39% of tablet revenues in Q1

(Telecompaper) Apple alone took 39 percent of revenues in the global tablet market in the first quarter of the year, nearly double its shipment unit market share of 22 percent, according to a report from Strategy Analytics. Samsung came in second with 16 percent of revenues, followed by Microsoft with 8 percent, white box manufacturers with 7 percent and Lenovo with 5 percent. The report also revealed that Microsoft and Apple combined to sell over a million of their Surface Pro and iPad Pro 2-in-1 devices in the first quarter, helping to keep tablet average selling prices flat year-on-year at USD 241.

LTE subscriber numbers double to 1.29 bln in Q1

(Telecompaper) LTE gained 182 million connections in Q1, that's almost 4 times faster than 3G/HSPA systems, according to a report by the Global mobile Suppliers Association (GSA). 3G/HSPA subscriptions grew by 48 million while GSM subscriptions fell by 120 million in the same quarter. The number of LTE and LTE-Advanced subscriptions is expected to pass the 3G/WCDMA-HSPA global total in 2020, and possibly sooner. Analysing mobile subscriptions data provided to GSA by Ovum for Q1, GSA said that the number of LTE and LTE-Advanced subscriptions reached 1.29 billion worldwide by 31 March. Over 645 million LTE subscriptions worldwide were gained during the past year, representing 100 percent annual growth.

(Telecompaper) KPN outperforms as Dutch mobile market contracts 3.0% in Q1 2016 The Dutch mobile services market generated EUR 1.11 billion in revenue in the first quarter of 2016, a drop of 3.0 percent compared to the same quarter last year and a decline of 2.9 percent versus the fourth quarter of 2015. According to Telecompaper's latest quarterly mobile market monitor, the four network providers continued to see some price pressure due to strong competition and lower out-of-bundle revenues. Both T-Mobile and Vodafone experienced a drop in annual mobile service revenues and as such they lost market share. In contrast, KPN showed an annual revenue growth which reinforced its market share. Tele2 also showed growth but remains the smallest player.
