MTN Group subscriber base down 1.4% in Q1
2016-04-22 08:02:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) MTN Group subscribers decreased by 1.4 percent in the first quarter to about 229 million at the end of March, impacted by the disconnection of subscribers in Nigeria due to the subscriber registration required there. In a quarterly update, MTN said group revenue for the quarter was boosted by the significant year-on-year depreciation in the rand against a number of the operational currencies. Constant currency (organic) data revenue increased by 20.1 percent annually, contributing 24.2 percent to total revenue. Voice and data traffic increased by 12.1 percent and 123.3 percent respectively year-on-year.

Telia improves FY EBITDA outlook after 10% growth in Q1
2016-04-20 08:37:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Telia has improved its outlook for the full year, after a strong first quarter. Instead of targeting unchanged adjusted EBITDA this year, the operator now expects a flat to slightly higher result. The forecast excludes the impact of acquisitions and disposals, such as Ncell in Nepal or the proposed sale of Yoigo in Spain, as well as currency effects. For the first quarter, Telia reported EBITDA from continuing operations up 10.4 percent year-on-year, both on a reported and adjusted basis, to SEK 6.217 billion. Revenue fell 0.9 percent and was down 1.1 percent on an organic basis to SEK 20.394 billion. Sales in its home market Sweden declined 2.4 percent to SEK 8.835 billion, while the rest of Europe grew 1.2 percent to SEK 10.430 billion. Telia also reported a strong increase in contribution from its affiliate companies, mainly due to Turkcell, to SEK 746 million from SEK 502 million a year ago. Telia said it's still working on selling the rest of its Eurasia operations, with market conditions challenging in several of the markets, due to weak economic conditions and currency pressures.
