Time Warner Cable returns to TV customer growth in Q1

(Telecompaper) Time Warner Cable returned to net growth in TV subscribers in the first quarter, its first increase since 2009. The cable operator added 30,000 new TV customers in the three months, for a total 10.819 million at the end of March. Broadband customers grew by 315,000 in the quarter to 11.990 million, and telephony subscribers increased by 320,000 compared to the end of December to 5.604 million. The company's revenues were up 3.5 percent year-on-year to USD 5.777 billion, with a 2.1 percent increase in residential and 16.9 percent higher sales in the business segment. Adjusted OIBDA rose a slower 0.8 percent to USD 1.996 billion amid an increase in programming costs and investments in customer care and technical operations. Net earnings were down 6.5 percent from a year ago to USD 1.65 per share. After a 36 percent increase in capital expenditure to USD 1.134 billion, free cash flow fell 35 percent to USD 407 million.

KPN keeps FY guidance as Q1 revenues decline 3.9%

(Telecompaper) KPN reported first quarter results showing revenues down 3.9 percent to EUR 1.92 billion and an adjusted EBITDA up 0.2 percent to EUR 622 million. The net profit reached EUR 15 million from 3 million the year before, while capex went to EUR 357 million, pushing free cash flow to EUR 34 million. The operator attributed the lower revenues to a weaker business market. The higher EBITDA figure came from cost savings. CEO Eelco Blok said the quarter showed a strong operational performance, with Consumer Mobile customer numbers rising on the back of new data bundles. Excluding Base, which will go to Telenet from the second quarter, KPN is guiding for full year 2015 capex of EUR 1.3 billion, with a stable adjusted EBITDA by year end, growing free cash flow and additional cash flow via a potential divident from the operators 20.5 percent stake in Telefonica Deutschland.

Twitter lowers FY outlook after revenue growth slows in Q1

(Telecompaper) Twitter reported first-quarter revenues of USD 436 million, up 74 percent from the year-earlier figure but lower than the company's guidance of USD 440-450 million. Advertising revenues came in at USD 388 million, up 72 percent from last year's figure of USD 226 million, of which some 89 percent came from mobile accounts. The messaging company's net loss widened to USD 162 million or 25 cents a share from USD 132 million or 23 cents a share a year ago. Adjusted EBITDA exceeded the company's target for Q1, coming in at USD 104 million, up from USD 37 million a year ago, representing an adjusted EBITDA margin of 24 percent. The company had a total of 302 million monthly active users in March, an increase of 18 percent year-on-year, after adding just 14 million users over the last quarter. Around 80 percent of users were on mobile. The company was forced to lower its guidance for annual revenue from USD 2.30 billion to around USD 2.17 2.27 billion, saying that its direct response products were likely to keep underperforming throughout the year.
