Cree files patent infringement complaints against competitor

Durham LED giant Cree is on the offensive, filing federal complaints that a competing firm, California-based Feit Electric Company, infringed on 10 of its patents. In papers filed with both the U.S. International Trade Commission and the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin against Feit and its Asian supplier, Unity Opto Technology Co., Cree requests that the ITC issue an order to exclude "infringing and falsely advertised articles" from entering the United States.

In particular, when if at all should trade mark infringers be sent to prison and, if they should, how should the duration of their sentences be calculated? The case in question is Prosecutor General v CS and it runs like this.

Apple to Pay 20 Million for Patent Infringement

The Guardian reports that Apple was fined over $20 million in a Texas court after it was found that Apple's iPhone infringes patents on pager technology from the 1990s. The six such patents were filed during a five-year period from 1992 to 1997, and covered technology used by the SkyTel two-way pager network.

No Ifs, Ands or Butt Pockets: Do "U" See Trademark Infringement?

Guru Denim, Inc. dba True Religion Brand Jeans recently sued Burlington Coat Factory Warehouse Corporation for selling jeans that allegedly infringed on True Religion's "U-shaped" pocket design. Interestingly, this is not the first time that True Religion filed suit against Burlington for infringement of its "U-shaped" marks.
