Skechers USA Inc. said it has filed a lawsuit accusing Steven Madden Ltd. of infringing on its patents for the Skechers' Go Walk line and other products. Manhattan Beach-based Skechers filed the suit in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, seeking compensatory and punitive damages as well as an injunction against selling the footwear from the Steven by Steve Madden Line under the style name Setta.

On Friday, the court entered a modified, agreed-to scheduling order that extends the time to complete such discovery by approximately seven months.

U.S. top court rules against Cisco Systems in patent infringement fight

On a 6-2 vote, with Justice Stephen Breyer recused, the court threw out a ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in favour of Cisco. The case will now return to the appeals court for further proceedings.
