We are looking for a Software Validation OnBoard Ground Engineer E3 to join our Modis Aerospace team, working onsite at the European Space Agency in the Netherlands. Modis Aerospace is a specialized Engineering consultancy with more than 30 years experience providing aerospace Engineers to our key partners in The Netherlands. Modis is a longstanding business partner of the European Space Agency ESA, with more than 120 employees recruited from across Europe currently supporting ESAs activities. Specific tasks to be performed The contractor will be assigned to the Flight Software Systems Section of the Software Systems Division and will be in charge of the following initial tasks Project support related to all technical aspects development and qualification of flight software. General Support to Software Validation Facilities and Avionics Test Bench infrastructure activities. General tasks to be performed Development of Software Validation Facility components as well for the generic facilities as special project applications. This includes processor emulators, simulation of spacecraft systems and spacecraft dynamics. Tasks within design, test and validation of onboards software. Task within customization of realtime operating systems for space applications. Tasks within maintenance and expert support within the software development toolset. Tasks within system evaluation, testing and performance characterization of telecommunication systems as networking via satellite or network management. Design, implementation and testing tasks for the Sections technology programme. To successfully perform the above mentioned tasks, the following background experience is required A Masters degree or equivalent qualification in Electronic Engineering, Space Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or a related discipline. In particular experience with Software engineering and objectoriented programming Space systems and Space Systems engineering Programming languages CC andor others Embedded Real Time Systems and Real Time Kernels Microprocessors such as SPARC LEON, ARM, multicores etc Communication protocols Mil1553, SpaceWire, CAN Software Engineering tools Software Engineering Standards such as the ECSSEST40C The contractor shall be able to function as part of a team. Because of the operational nature of the support, a proactive and flexible attitude will be required. Experience with embedded realtime software development will be an advantage. About ESAESTEC The European Space Agency ESA has sites in several European countries. The European Space Research and Technology Centre ESTEC is the largest site and the technical heart of ESA. This nursery of European space activities is located in Noordwijk, Netherlands. At ESTEC, about 2500 engineers, technicians and scientists work handson with mission design, spacecraft and space technology. Almost all ESA projects except launchers are managed from ESTEC. In Noordwijk, people work on science missions, manned space missions, Earth observation, telecommunications and navigation satellites. Main Responsibilities The below range of support tasks are required Validation of designs by means of simulation techniques e.g. Matlab, SystemC and simulations at electricalboard level. Knowledge of on board links, buses, wireless local networking and communication protocols. Specific engineering support in the above domains to mainstream ESA space projects, mainly for but not restricted to the development and testing phases. Master Degree in a relevant field Knowledge of CCSDS communication protocols and related standards Deep knowledge of data handling functions and their implementation. Understanding of electrical satellite systems architectures Experience in spacecraft project support in particular related to spacecraft data handling, onboard data interfaces, associated protocols and system level validation. Ability to work in an autonomous manner, in particular when providing support to projects with high time allocations and this in coordination with the line manager.
