For our activities in ESOC, we are currently looking for two Space Debris Operational Software Engineers. Tasks and Responsibilities The Key Person will take care of the following tasks Administration and support of DISCOS users, management of access rights Maintenance of the DISCOS database in order to ensure the availability and accessibility of the DISCOS database and its associated services data acquisition and ingestion, maintenance and operation of scripts and tools organising automatic data retrieval and database processes consistency checks ORACLElevel maintenance organisation, execution, archival and retrieval and of backups monitoring of completeness and data quality maintenance of data quality records Upgrade of the DISCOS database Installation of upgrades of DISCOS components or applications Alignment of the DISCOS front end with upgrades Maintenance of the DISCOS operational environment Maintenance of the data server and of the data archive Maintenance of the DISCOS application server Migration of the DISCOS database Finalisation of the current Linux migration activities, primarily developing a Javabased webfront end based on ApacheTomcat and using a standard toolkit, such as GWT Maintenance and update of DISCOS user documentation and of the database administration manual Issue of periodical reports issue of monthly status and activity reports issue of semiannual EsaROS, EsaLOG, and EsaLOF reports Mar., Sep. issue of semiannual logs of ESA objects in space Jan., Jul. issue of annual logs of ESA launches Jan., for the past year issue of annual GEO status reports Jan. issue of COSPAR launch tables Apr., Aug., Dec. Support of the IADC Reentry Events Database and of associated prediction campaigns at least once per year Support of the IADC Common Database Maintenance of the ODIN software and software documentation Corrective and routine maintenance Customization and installation of the software and of required support tools Organisation of data archival Generation of new ODIN configuration files on request ODIN configuration and runs in support of highrisk conjunction event analysis, experimental runs and reentry events Amendments of the software and its supporting environment, e.g. w.r.t. Automated batch processing of tracks of several objects e.g. from a surveillance sensor Processing of a TLE refinement approach based on orbit determination through a series of TLE sets Support of other ODIN tasks on adhoc basis such as numerical propagation of states Routine operation of the CRASS conjunction event prediction software Detailed analysis in the case of a highrisk conjunction event Orbit determination and covariance estimation of the chaser object, based on European tracking data e.g. FHR, Monge, Globus II Recommendation of an avoidance manoeuvre if required Verification of a collisionfree avoidance trajectory Maintenance of the CRASS conjunction event prediction software and software documentation Corrective and routine maintenance Customization and installation of the software and of required support tools Organisation of data archival o Maintenance of UNIX scripts to automatically run CRASS processes and mail results Amendments to the software and its supporting environment, e.g. w.r.t. Processing of bundles of chaser orbits in ephemeris form Incorporation of a process to assess more accurate chaser orbit information Automatic rerun of CRASS after routine run based on TLE in order to consider bundles of refined chaser orbits Support to the interfacing with external entities, such as JSpOC for the analysis of conjunction events Preparation of orbit files for data exchange Inspection and analysis of results Risk assessment based on returned results Operation of the reentry event prediction software Maintenance of the reentry event prediction software and software documentation Corrective and routine maintenance Customization and installation of the software and of required support tools Organisation of data archival Maintenance of the near realtime density model Daily monitoring of log files Corrective and routine maintenance Minor improvements to the software, injection of new candidate objects Incorporation of the NRTDM results into propagation tools used for reentry predictions. Requirements In addition to a Master degree or equivalent, the key person should bring at least 4 years experience in the following fields in particular Coordinate Systems Orbital Mechanics Space Debris Matters Observation, modelling, mitigation Orbit determination aspects database and software maintenance SQL, Oracle 8i tools e.g. Oracle Web Server Oracle 10g on Linux, Apache, Tomcat basic understanding of the hardware PCs, RAID, back up mechanisms LaTeX documentation software HSOGR operational Software CRASS, ODIN, DISCOS, NRTDM. The software engineer SDA shall support this development.
